Fireworks

I just put 2 freshly charged batts in a diy serial battery holder. I don't know why it would flare up but it did. Must have been a differemce in power but i am quite puzzled as they are 30a batts and i thought they would just exchange a tiny bit of power to level out. Destroyed both batteries with one staying hot for about 20 minutes.

I'm just Glad it happened after you posted my gear off to me!!! Could have been Devastating!!!

For batteries in parallel one will charge the other, with as much current as the higher voltage one can give and the lower voltage one can take until they are balanced.

For batteries in series as soon as a circuit is made the higher voltage one will reverse charge the lower voltage one. If they're connected to a regulator, putting them in the wrong way round may cause an instant short through the regulator.

I think that's what i did.
To run them in series would you just connect the positive to the negative of the other cell?
I stupidly made a double holder with both connections joined so they were touching plus to plus and minus to minus. What a Numbskull! :-(
It worked fine in series but when I swapped one of the batteries around so the plus was connected to the neg and the same the other end. I can't believe what a numpty I've been. I just swapped em round without even thinking! I'll get my coat!

Glad there was no serious harm done (to you and mod)

As is said:- We learn our greatest lessons from our mistakes.-:
I bet you'll never do that again!

Annoyed I saved a pound making the holder and spent £12 for the firework display! :-)
Live and learn I reckon.

Yeah. You kind of made a circuit involving two conductors......

Glad your ok, if you have some sand, put it in a bucket and bury both cells in it for a few days to a week then recycle them.

For series. Connect one negative to one positive. Then the exposed negative and positive connect to your circuit, for parrallel, all your positives connect together and all your negatives connect together then you connect the positive to your circuit and the negative to your circuit.

Glad your ok, and you were using imrs, icrs would have gotten quite interesting in this situation.

I've just had my first experience of a venting battery. Bang go 2 x 30a efests!
Note to self. Find out more about serial and parallel configurations before you stick batteries into a holder.
That was scary!

You ok?

Got pics of the beasties?

It's an all too easy mistake to make. I mark all my batteries with + and - even LiPos. It's not something someone tends to do twice.
