How does this chip measure up against the likes of Evolv, Yihi, Voopoos Gene & the Eleaf/Joyetech/Wismec offerings.

That's a good question. I would say it is as stable as the chips mentioned but with different functons. The new chip origins from smart phone industry and provided a new vape mode and there will be articles talking about the new chip and new mode in detail.

a single battery box mod? Good stuff. What battery will it take? 18650, 26650, 20700 or 21700? What wattage will it be able to achieve?
