- 2x18650.
- SX350 chip.
- Led switch.
- Fat daddy 510.
- Keystone battery holder.
- Magnetic side door.

White Hammond, didn't like the color or that the enclosure isn't straight.

Machined it straight (need to shave of about 0.7mm). Etched it so the paint would stick and then primed it.

Satin black still didn't like it.

Ended up making a plastic insert that covers the hole back where to stop battery holder contacts from shorting.

In the end I gave it a textured paint job.

Nylon chip cradle that snapped while machining it, had to dump that idea.

Anybody interested in making one and wants the body machined straight with all the cutouts just ask. I can etch it too so you don't have to buy the expensive etch primer.

Whats the smallest possible to fit an sx350 in with an 18650 or lipo? I've seen them built in the Hammond 1550p which is pretty small but is it possible to go smaller still?

You could go smaller with a 1200mah lipo but you would be forever charging it. Even with a 18650 at 50watts you only got a few hours before the battery is dead. Big watts need big batteries.

That's looking lovely by the way.

I'm thinking of having a go at building myself a small wooden vw box mod, if it goes tits up I may have to get someone a bit more skilled to do it :)

I'm happy to carry a spare battery if I can have a tiny box mod.

Simple method to end up with a small mod,

What wattage do you run fulltime?
Use a battery that will supply that power for as long as you require between charges

Result is a mod that is designed around YOUR requirements

If you make it out of wood you can squeeze it into a peice of 40mmx25mmx80mm. I know this because thats the space it takes up in my squonker. Smaller with metal top and bottom plates perhaps, maybe 75mm.

Very nice. I've been having Hammond paint blues this week resulting in stripping the paint off numerous times. Hopefully you can give me some advice. I used standard plastikote primer, which I'm guessing was the problem and then some graffiti ironlak paint that didn't seem to dry.
I've now ordered some plastikote etching primer, plastikote black and plastikote clear. Will this be OK?

I was hoping to be able to use some Montana 64 or ironlak for the colours so I'm wondering if they are compatible with the plastikote etch and clear. Any advice?

Etch primer is the key to getting it to stick aluminum. Just make sure all the paints you use on it are the same chemistry (usually acrylic today, plastikote is acrylic). Sand between each coat with fine sand paper. Primer sand (400 grit), color sand (800-1200 grit), clear coat sand (1200 grit) and polish.
Remember painting stuff isn't like graffiti its very different, you want apply light coats and wait 5-10mins between each coat until its fully covered with paint (don't sand between these coats).

You can use sodium hydroxide to etch the aluminum before painting, you might even have some of this stuff at home its used in drain unblock-er. If the label says don't use in aluminum pipes then its the right stuff. 5mins in drain unblock-er will do it.

I usually get my paint off ebay its the paint they use on cars and they mix it & put it in can, then I can bake it in the oven for 30mins. Couldn't get hold of textured paint this way so I had to use normal spray can paint.

Thanks fella. I've gone bare on this one as I couldn't wait but the next one will get some paint.
