Hello all,

Live in Govanhill in Glasgow, have smoked for about 10/11 years (got my habit up to 15, or 20 when hammered shall we say). Couple of weeks ago finished a very stressful job and decided I had simply had enough of all the nonsense to do with smoking fags:

1) the cost, which when I added it up over a year was obscene
2) I began to feel guilty that I was making the flat uncomfortable and found myself smoking furtively out of the bathroom window so as not to upset my girlfriend
3) really started to feel it creeping up on me health-wise (I lay patios for extra money, and you get found out fitness wise with that sort of work: doesn't stop most laborers smoking 20 a day though!).
4) couldn't even enjoy a joint of a friday evening or sunday afternoon, due to the baccy! dreadful! :)
5) health related in general, I am convinced it was making me more stressed out in terms of blood pressure etc and my family have no general health issues except blood pressure later in life which means I am very lucky but why would I want to test it out (no one else smokes)

Told my girlfriend I was going to dig out a disposable e-cig a friend gave me last summer which was till in its packaging (one of those which looks like a fag but which is pretty uncomfortable to hang out of one's mouth - nigh on impossible - in Glasgow that's a potential offensive weapon!). She was delighted, I said goodbye to my now hated Marlboro Lights and got on with it. First couple of days I had a few drinks and tried rollies with liquorice skins from a friend, wasn't even as nice as the e-cig. Got a bit more on the ball the next day and got '10 Motives' e-cig and couldn't get a decent draw.

Kept going with 10 Motives and got told about a shop in Partick and went down there after a week and a half of '10 Motives' and got what I was recommended, this eGo-T thingy and some serious looking liquid and a couple of batteries following advice on here before I registered......

Wow. Fantastic. I quit for three months last summer (cold t) and I felt edgy and angry for all three months and most of all missed the act of puffing away, that was definitely the hardest thing. I have now found a great alternative which I much more fun.....

But I have two golems:

1) A sanctimonious friend who is extremely fit and into cycling who has just left my flat having got me all worried that I'm inhaling anti-freeze etc etc....
2) I personally see it as simply obvious that without combustion these things are life-savers...and yet another friend is a cardio-respiratory specialist who says they are but it will be along time before they are done hammering people for not giving up nicotine altogether. Sad. And mostly to do with revenue and market share he believes.

I am very glad I just got on with it and whilst I can't say I won't be tempted to baccy by the odd joint I really, really don't see myself buying another pack of fags and I was never into rollies anyway......

Amazing.

Please gimme a reply if you also have sanctimonious pals.....???

And many thanks this forum is excellent

I know exactly what you mean mate. I gave up for 6 months (cold-t) when I was living away. Came back and didnt start smoking straight away but having the odd j with mates got me back to the dirty fags!. For that front I have moved onto using a vaporiser or a pipe.. gets you wasted without the need to have baccy. I also find that if I have baccy for that purpose it's not long before I am back on the roll ups.

Most of my mates still smoke and can't see the point in vaping but then they don't have any kids and don't mind smelling of a bonfire. There are always people out there who will mock etc but then it's their choice if they still want to smoke.

Do be warned though that, although you may not be spending money on ciggies, it won't be long before the addiction to shinies takes hold. I've been vaping a little over a month now and am already moving onto mechs and building my own coils... it's addictive! I'm just waiting on fast tech to deliver my new goodies and then it's cloud heaven!! I am however getting really good vapour/flavour from an aerotank mega/evod battery setup but have replaced the standard wick with cotton wool. Changing the standard tank was definitely the best thing I have done thus far

yep I have noticed the liquid refill ('a weeks worth') is disappearing quite fats but won't give myself a hard time over that just yet! I think I'll start leaving it at home more, to be honest I'm loving this thing sounds childish but its great haha. Thought I had mastered smoke rings years ago, but no! Seriously though I will start keeping tabs on the costs pretty soon...

Saw some other threads and some of the vapes are pretty fancy... have you seen how much one of those Nemesis things COSTS?!

Hi welcome to the forums, n gratz on kicking the stinkies.

I was a smoker for 26 years, but thanks to vaping and this brilliant community I aint touched one in 13 days !! its the only thing thats worked for me, and my DR thinks its great.

Hi Vaporific! (Great name!) Welcome to the Planet! :welcome2:

Tell mate A he's talking out of his arse and to stop reading the daily fail ;)
Tell mate B he's a legend.

I have a friend that refuses to even try my ecig because she says they are worse for you than real cigs. There are some people that are just too :banghead: and others who are a litle more open to not just what they read in the papers. I thik we all have that 1 person in our lives that has their opinion on them set in stone.

You keep vaping away! :)

If a GP opens a shop selling e-cig / vaping equipment next to his surgery that will do me ;)

Hello from another weegie......I know the shop in partick that your talking about and the juices are just rebranded chinese liquid.....If you want some good stuff go out to the "Inshops" at the forge and visit emporium vapors shop where you can test and try out a whole selection of juices, mixed and made up for you there and then ....And I hate to say this but the stuff sold in "the partick shop" is cheap shite.....And I know this as that's where I bought my first ego/ce4 combo and it cost £25.00...bit of a rip off really.......There's another bricks and mortar shop in sauchiehall street (vapourised) where our very own member here ninjassasin works and I'm sure he''l give you lots of advice on anything you're unsure off..

Welcome to big wide world of vaping.......

I know loads of people like that. I have been stopped for about a year.

First I thought, just replace one with the other then take down my nic intake. Never happened. I think I vape more than I ever smoked. But thats the best way to wien yourself off using the electro cigs, provided you use it like you would a normal cig. For example I could never smoke in the house, but I can vape all day and night.

People are always telling me (even this morning showing off my new mod) that "you dont know what the long term effects are". My answer is always, "but i know the long term effects of fags, and it aint all that good!".

I always find the sanctimonious ones are people who have never smoked or quit before ecigs came along. Ignore them, reap the benefits, enjoy the culture and if you can, quit in your own time.

One thing I found interesting was the NHS website saying they are the lesser of two evils, which is good enough for me. Personally I haven't seen any health benefits, I cycle and my fitness level is the same as it always was.

From what I have read, the chemicals used are the same they use in fog machines in night clubs and things like that. So as long as you buy from reputable vendors, you wont get any kind of paint stripper or anything. I would suggest reasearching, and here is the best place to start. I have had lots of advice in the couple of days I have been using the forums.

Congratulations on quitting and welcome to POTV :2thumbsup:
