Help With a New Setup

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning on starting vaping again but I need to buy a completely new set up and it seems like a lot has changed since I was last vaping (around 2016/17) and I'm struggling to find the clear and obvious answer to some of my problems last time.

Previously I had a SMOK G-Priv with various SMOK tanks (TFV4, 8, 12) and experimented with most of their coil variants during that period, but found the following frustrations:

- Leaking - read up online that this can be for various reasons but always seemed to be very excessive.
- Not portable enough for on the go use (being a bloke meant limited to pockets - jeans or jacket).
- 18250 batteries seemed to deteriorate in health very quickly, I opted for the Samsung green wraps which were highly rated back then, but they just seemed to die out very quickly and were quite costly to replace all the time.

Flavour with this SMOK set up was never a problem & perhaps the leaking was my own fault if some of you have not had this same experience with their tanks and coils!

I've seen that there's been a bit of a surge in pod mods, and the new SMOK RPM80 seems to answer most of these questions, should be non-leak, is fairly small, integrated battery (etc) but are pod mods any good and what is the maintenance like on these? A cursory search on Google seems like the coils are a bit of a pain to get hold of in that there are limited options - do you just replace the whole pod or is it still a coil replacement like the RTAs?

The other option was a GeekVape Aegis Mini with a GeekVape Zeus X RTA tank, purely because the tank is highly rated for not leaking, however, would this be a ridiculously large tank on a mini-mod?

Would really appreciate some help on a new set up, I'm open to any suggestions so if there is a better way to achieve what I need I'd really appreciate it, these were just a couple of options I had come to from researching.

The most important thing for me is flavour, minimal leaks & portability so that it can literally replace cigarettes for me entirely without having to wear a lanyard or carry a rucksack everywhere.

For any recommendations, if you could also point me in the right direction for where to find the best coils for ongoing maintenance I'd also really appreciate that too!

Thanks a tonne in advance,
Kieran

Hi @KieranS96 and welcome to the planet.

things sure have changed a lot since 2016 especcially with TPD
here in the uk tanks are now limited to 2ml which is a jooke when you are using a coil that can go over 100watts. 5 puffs and tank needs filling again. same with mods. if you buy any kit in the uk it will come with max 2ml tank or pod. China sure has helped as you can buy the kit a lot cheaper and they come with full sized tanks.

right, onto new kits.
as youve previously used tfv4,8,12 im guessing your after a direct to lung tank for higer wattage.
my go to tanks are freemax mesh pro, falcon king, geekvape alpha and many more.
mods. latest ive bought are vaporesso gen with skrr tank, voopoo x217, aegis x and aegis legend still to arrive.

on pods ive tried quite a few and the latest has been the best by a long shot. vaporesso PM80 is a 80w pod with refillable pods. sadly kits all come with 2ml but ive just received some 4ml from cloudstix (all links below).
this small kit is so good im getting another one. it has 2000mah built in battery. the latest is just being released which is the PM80 SE which takes a single 18650 battery.

for all our recommended hardware suppliers check out post 5 here POTV Vendors & Recommended E Liquid Suppliers

always ask more questions before you buy as there could well be deals and discounts available.

Hi @KieranS96 and welcome.

Looks like @MrDJ has set you up nicely, but I will reiterate what he said again, always ask here again before purchasing as there’s always going to be someone with an opinion or as he said, a cheeky discount code :)

Like @Nucleus said @MrDJ pretty much has it covered. Only thing useful I can add is that I had quite a few Smok tanks a few years ago and they always leaked.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response @MrDJ really appreciate that - great resource to have as well with the links to all of your approved retailers etc so thanks for that too! :)

Sounds like a mini mod with a tank would be the best bet for me then as the pods are fairly low wattage and capacity like you say.

Do you think a GeekVape Aegis Mini with a GeekVape Zeus X RTA tank or maybe a Falcon King would work?

My worry with a mini mod is making sure the tank isn't overkill on it, do minis require tanks designed for them or does anything go?

I'm really trying to get something that will fit into a jacket pocket and minimal leaking!

Thanks for the advice @Nucleus & also confirmation on the SMOK leak @MHL

I despise SMOK to be honest. They rush too much to get the “next big thing” released and fuck up on the quality side of things. They used to be good, but have slipped massively in my opinion

totally agree. tfv4 days they were good but then went downhill with a new mod or tank almost every week and their QC went down the pan.
saying that i did get the smok nord which is a decent pod and the coils have lasted as well so hopefully they are turning things around again.

You do realise that the geek vape Zeus RTA and Falcon king are two completely different tanks? The Zeus RTA is rebuildable, which means you’ll have to wrap and wick your own coils. Falcon takes stock coils so you don’t have to wrap/wick, just screw the coil in, prime it and away you go. Depends totally which road you want to go down?

If your looking for a small pocket sized pod, a lot of vapers might laugh at this but the Aspire Nautilus AIO is excellent, great flavour, battery is pretty good and it will even fit in your wallet, well not wallet but it's small enough for your pocket. Oh and welcome to the forum :)
