How dangerous are these batteries people use for mods?
I was thinking of upgrading my ego usb to a mod..... but keep seeing warning about the batteries...... even found a fire proof bag to put charger in while charging batteries!
So how dangerous are they? What precautions to people take when working with them?

Theyre as dangerous as the batteries in your remote controls, your mobile phone, and are more likely than not, the same exact batteries in that huge battery pack in your laptops.

The reason there are warnings is because people dont use the right chargers, they leave them charging over night or unattended, they do stupid things with them like remove the protective plastic wrappings...

Theyre fine. The lipo fire bag is just an extra precaution in case one of them vents or discharges, which CAN happen because nothing in this world is 100% fool proof :)

Yep. Take sensible precautions and the likelihood of a problem with your batteries is very small.
Always use quality batteries from a reputable source.
IMR`s are regarded as the safest option as they are "safe chemistry" batteries and do not, as a rule, vent violently.

AW and Efest are usually cited as being the amongst the best, Sony and Panasonic make good batteries too.

Thanks for info
Some mods seems to suggest using unprotected batteries..... is this wise? Does it mKe things more dangerous for charging etc?

In a regulated device (pretty much all variable voltage/wattage devices) you should use unprotected batteries as the protection is built into the device and using protected batteries in these mods can cause issues/conflicts with the devices inbuilt protection.
Many mechanical device users choose to use these unprotected batteries too as the safer chemistry of IMR often makes them safer overall than a protected ICR type battery.

In short, if your device has built-in protection you are best using unprotected batteries but always check with the maker of that specific device to be 100% sure.

always use a good quality charger such as the Nitecore intellicharger and, ideally, don't leave batteries charging unattended for long periods or overnight just to be safe.

Coolio..... thanks for info..... I think it might be time to take the plunge and get my first vv/vw mod :)
I like the idea of being able to change the batteries rather than the whole unit

No worries.
Myepack is well worth a look, good prices, plenty of options and you can get all your stuff, batteries, chargers etc. in one place. Quick delivery too. (Not connected with this vendor, just had really good service from them.)
I started with an iTaste SVD which is a pretty good all rounder. Vamo is supposed to be a good starter mod too.

Your ego battery is not 100% safe either - though to put things in perspective, vapers just become more aware of the risks, not at greater risk - except for the fact they might use more rechargeable batteries than the next person (I'd been charging phones unattended and leaving laptops permanantly plugged into the mains for years, unaware that this posed a small fire risk).

Risks are minimal, but it's possible to reduce this to almost zero by not charging anything unattended.

Equally, batteries are well-protected in a regulated mod, and as far as I know, IMR batteries are pretty safe in a mech - I just know that you have to start being a bit more aware/cautious of what you use and how when you get into sub-ohm coils on a mech mod.

As long as you follow the care instructions and if you are not sure and ask or do your research like today :)

You will be fine, it is when people think it is just a battery... and use the wrong equipment that there are problems :(
A great source of info is the Wiki and Battery University

I must admit I'm still pretty gung-ho with laptops, phones, tablets etc.
My laptops are usually left plugged in all the time and I don't worry about charging my phone overnight etc.
Im not recommending this btw, just saying there is a fine line between sensible precaution and battery paranoia!
I think the ego with USB charger is often a less safe option than a separate battery and good quality charger.
Many egos use the ICR chemistry battery and are often charged in PC USB ports which can lead to problems.
