I need some help

Hi Folks,
I need a bit of assistance or suggestions I should say
I have a rather wonderful Ether RTA which @John R sent me, I LOVE the aesthetic and it looks absolutely stunning on the Limelight Box Reborn "Again", especially with the extension Tank.



However....... I seem to be having trouble finding the perfect Coil Placement?
I am using PC Coils Nano Alien 0.65 2.5id Full NI80 and I am wicking this with Muji which has been fluffed out a bit, not a huge amount.

I am using a 70/30 Dispergo "Okay Orange" Liquid. And here's my problem/problems...............

As most of you know, I am NOT a high wattage Vaper, my usual preferred wattage is around 16 watts, for this style of RTA. However, I am the first to admit, this style of Coil is new to me, i.e. Full NI80. So it's of course perfectly possible that one of the problems may lie here? Perhaps these require far more power than I am using?

I have watched just about every review and I am not confident that I have the Coil Placement right yet. Whoops! I should also have said I am NOT using an insert under the Coil. SO...0.48ohms at 16 watts and the flavour just isn't there. It's OK I suppose, but nowhere comparable to the same liquid in a Tripod, Dvarw or a FeV. So this tells me that I have yet to get the Coil Placement right for me?
At the moment I have the bottom of the Coil just under the Top of the Posts which seemed to be the recommended height, it works fine and there are no shorts. But the flavour just isn't really what I had hoped for. Not that it particularly interests me, but the vapour production is also weak, I mention this to save anyone asking



So before I scrap this build and resort to an SS316L simple single strand coil instead, I could really use some recommendations re Coil Placement and Type.
I keep hearing from others I have already asked that running the Coil lower will only exacerbate the problems?

Any assistance would be really helpful.

Ni80 has a higher resistance than SS316L, ie 28awg Ni80 5 wrap 0.7ohm compared to SS316L at 0.5ohm, so shouldn't need more power. Being clapton though that would need a bit more to heat up than a simple round wire build. If a bit more power doesn't improve the vape then, as you say it's just as likely to be coil placement or lack of restrictor. Not conversant with the Ether so can't add any thoughts there Sah.

Definitely needs the restrictor, I'd give it a bit more beans too on the wattage.

What I will say is that my coils were never that high - you could probably lick them through the drip tip

I use Coilology MTL Ni80 Staple wire 2.5mm id 5 wrap at around 0.60 ohm in the Ether - although not the MTL Alien wire you are using it is just as complex, has similar mass and similar resistance.

With the airflow insert in place and sub 16W power I cannot get this wire to give anything other than muted flavour regardless of coil positioning (but I don't have the same problem with this wire in my KF Lite or Reload MTL RTA where it works well), but I don't like a tight MTL so maybe I gave up too easily?

With the airflow insert removed I get great results in RDL mode - but it needs 25 to 30 Watts to perform properly, running below 25 watts causes the flavour to start getting muted - I have the coil positioned to the bottom of the coil is JUST below the top of the screws.

To be honest I had severe problems getting the air insert to seat properly - and subsequently found it too restrictive that I gave up on it and left it in the box. I didn't try any other MTL build other than the Coilology Staple wire and that simply didn't give good results regardless of how I positioned the wire relative to the airflow - but I was so happy with how it performed at higher wattages in RDL mode that I didn't try any other MTL builds in it.

II recommend you try a simple roundwire build in the Ether for MTL to see if this helps - I'm confident those Micro Aliens will be great if you jack up the power and open the airflow a little, but I found complex wires and low power MTL don't work in the Ether (in my token 1 build...)

In addition to my last post...

What I should have written, but didn't, was -

I get decent results from complex wires for a fairly loose MTL vape when I bump up the wattage - they work best for me at 18 to 20 Watts in situations where simple round wire will be good at lower settings.

I made the mistake of thinking too hard when trying to make the last post, got distracted and typed a load of rambling crap, complex lower ohm wires seem to need more power to work properly. Yes, that's what I should have written. I think...

I get good results from Ni80 27g at low watts. Also the Coilology MTL Clapton ramps up well too.

Not a big fan of the Ether, i used to get a better vape from the RBA in the Abyss. I don't MTL a great deal and usually use Stock Coils for MTL. I will say that i never put Complex Coils in the RBA and the flavour was very good.
