What's new

inawera horned toffee

I used to deliver milk back in the day and one particular old Doris I used to deliver to used to greet me every visit with 2 mint imperials and ask me if I wanted a toffee.
Must be colloquial.

yeah, I think some people did used to use 'toffee' like the yanks use 'candy' to basically mean any kind of sweets.

I vaguely remember my great grandmother saying it.

how much did the milk cost?

About 9p a pint in mid 1976, I used to deliver milk as well, aged 14/15, it would go up a half of one pence, every couple of months, by the end of 1977 it was 12-13p a pint, cant quite recall.

was the milk float repairable? :)
No, because we didn't use a milk float, it was a big white Bedford van, something like this, with out the go faster stripes

@memzey It's the the 'members bargain basement' section mate... I won't post it here for that reason.

If you can't find it I'll PM you.

In the 1920s, Horner's erected a 106ft chimney, visible from Scotland, with the words "Dainty Dinah" picked out in white at the top which became a landmark. A large bust of Dinah was placed on top of the factory overlooking Horner's "five acres of sweetness".

Fixed that. :)
