The evods are a smashing bit of starter kit, and I still use mine now as do many of the longer term members. Strangely enough there's a million and one videos and schematics of how to rebuild them, but very little for a beginner on how to clean them, so here's some POTV threads with helpful advice from members

Because I am lazy (and have a few tanks now) I generally give mine a thorough wash under the hot tap (unscrew the tank part from the bottom bit that contains the atomiser first), leave to soak in hot water for a while, then finally pop them in a kitchen tissue lined box on a warm radiator out of the way so they don't get knocked off or touched by children, other half, dog, cat, etc, etc
If the tank is a little hard to unscrew, then use a rubber glove or rub a little drop of washing-up liquid around the join and leave for a few seconds, then hold the tank with a damp cloth or piece of kitchen tissue. Once you come to use the tank again, make sure that the atomiser - the part that screws into the base and contains the wicks - is screwed in properly before you fill it again.
If you want to learn the mysteries of 'dry burning', this is how I learned
Some juices contain a higher level of sugars than others (not the white stuff you put in your tea!) so using them means the evod will need cleaning more often (every couple of fills or less), I've found that juices containing liquorice, caramel, and the darker juices tend to be the worst culprits - you'll often get a slightly burnt taste. If the burnt taste remains after cleaning, you'll need to change the atomiser.
Remember also that evods are happy with most juices, but don't like citrus and some cinnamons, pineapples, bananas and other flavours - if in doubt, have a look at the list onsite of tank crackers, or see if the juice-seller mentions it in their listing.
For juice-crackers, you'll be wanting a protank (or an aspire, etc), hehehe, and if this happens, you'll probably get the dreaded shinyitis
