Kangertech Protank 3 gets pretty good reviews especially on youtube but the reality is very different. A full review is not necessary since there are loads of reviews to read.

In its favour is that it's a Kangertech with the Protank pedigree, it comes apart for cleaning and all parts are replaceable. It also looks good. But it's no good looking good if it's hard to produce vapour from it: When mounted on a regular eGo battery it doesn't produce vapour from a single puff. In order to produce vapour from an eGo battery repeated puffs are needed to get the coils going.

I've found that in order to produce vapour which even comes close to my Evods and Smok Aro IIs I have to ramp up the voltage on My Smok Aro VV to the max of 4.8 volts. At that rate the tank itself gets very warm and the resulting vapour is also very warm, in fact bordering on hot and flavour is all but destroyed.

There are options available such as getting 1.5 ohm coils or getting a Naturevape coil but quite frankly I'm finding it hard to stop myself throwing it in the bin. When I buy something new I expect it to work without having to modify it.

In conclusion the bottom line is that at least a VV is needed to run the Protank 3 but don't expect a cool vape nor any flavour.

EDIT: A further problem just discovered is the dreaded gurgle when taking a longer puff: Basically if you carry on gurgling you get e-liquid in your mouth. I think why I didn't discover it at first is that I take short puffs whatever I'm vaping. But on this occasion I took longer puffs. Still on my VV at 4.8 volts but I have a Vamo V5 for home use on the way as well as a Naturevape coil so I'll see if it is improved. In spite of its shortcomings I like the Protank 3 but if I can't improve it I have a heavy hammer ready :)

Would you expect a Samsung battery to work in an HTC without modification? You have tried to pair two unsuitable parts and are blaming your equipment.

I've made, and am still making, many mistakes, but I blame myself. If you're not sure, ask for advice first.

It's 2014. Therefore I would question the use of a protank regardless of its variant.
Thanks for the review and all that.

If Samsung told me it would work in there, yes I would expect it to work in there.

Kangertech's "Suitable Voltage to different Resistance" in the instructions states "1.8 - 2.2 Resistance " is "3.2 - 6.0 volts" so I expect it to work at 3.2 volts. If Kangertech had quoted 5 volts which I suspect is the voltage required I wouldn't expect it to run at 3.2 volts.

But you missed the point that at the increased voltage the vaping experience is severely degraded. It's actually better at 3.2 volts taking several puffs while keeping the battery activated. But that's too much work for me: I want my vapour on demand.

I'd say the problem with the Protank 3 is a combination of the coil which explains why Naturevape is apparently frequently out of stock of them and the air-flow which is very tight. I tried loosening the tank from the plinth to no avail.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were "quoting". I think the problem with vaping being such a young industry is that there are no definite rules or answers. Experience tells me an Ego is going to struggle to fire a Protank 3, but the manufacturer, testing in a lab on possibly a more advanced model with a different juice may have had more success. Add a bit of creative license ................

I think the lesson here is, don't believe the manufacturer's claims. Always ask on here before making a purchase, the pool of knowledge is huge and you'll often get an answer in minutes.

Ir's really the province of the reviewer to be honest. I haven't seen any review which says that to run a Protank 3 a Mod is preferable. The Protank 3 was the last tank on my short-list and what is best for me turns out to be the Evod 1 and the Naturevape coiled Smok Aro II Pyrex.

i use a Protank 3 on my MVP and until very recently i thought it was the mutt's nuts.

to be fair, i bunged an airflow valve on it as soon as i got it, and used rebuilt single 1.5 ohm coils wicked with cotton ... but it works really well. i never used the original setup as the draw was too tight and i'd already developed an aversion to kanger dual coils

it can be a total arse to get the base off it due to the spinny non-grippyness of the air valve but, as with so many things in this world, if you stick a nail in it - it fixes the fecker.

as for batteries- i wouldn't use a protank 3 on a skinny ego purely due to the look of the thing. it looks weird enough on the mvp.

it seems that i've concluded that the protank 3 is a really good tank if you completely rebuild it to be something different and only use it on an mvp.

it's really good then :)

I love my mpt3's on any of my batteries. Ego, spinner &mvp. So much better than the Fckn aerotank, but nowhere near as good as the kfl..... I horses for courses really.
