There are multiple variants of "interest" and multiple more of "concern". Regardless of our own infection rates, with so many global infections there are going to be many, many more variants that pose a serious risk, and it's inevitable, IMHO, because of the way the vaccines are made that eventually a variant will bypass the current crop of vaccines entirely. That's why there has been such high hopes for mRNA vaccine technology, because they can be tweaked very easily and very quickly and adapted to new strains of the virus.
Personally, I have zero faith in the government to keep variants out of the UK in the coming months and possibly even years.
