I mixed best custard at 20percent instead of the reccomended 17.5percent I rounded it up for ease sake and had the mind set it would taste ok if not better, i mixed in may 2024, after two weeks i tried it and it was delicous then i left it in my dark cupboard in the backroom that stays at an even temperature about 14 to 20 most the year unless theres an outrageous heatwave. Intried the custard again this week and it tastes burnt and faded, not very nice at all.

I suppose my question is did the 2.5 percent extra ruin the profile or have i left it to steep to long , my assumption was because it was a custard a long steep would make it better. Inam not so sure now.

I have some fruit flavours like jungle juice and death valley fruits by darkstar that i mixed at the sake tikenajd they taste ok.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated tonsee where i went wrong.

please excuse the few spelling misteaks, i have giant fingers and a small brain (think ork off 40k)

Sorry for stating the obvious but I take it that you shook it really well before trying it. Has the colour changed significantly since the last time you tried it? I’m wondering wether your nicotine oxidised and went bad.

yes i shook it before trying it, and you could be on to something with the nicotine to be fair, I use the nicotine shots by darkstar and ive noticed they do oxidise before the date on the bottles, i have had a batch before where there was no dates on as well, so for me it does seem like the weakest link other than the inclusion of extra flavouring, the colours definitely darkened but not to the point where i would of suspected the nicotine to be on the badside especially for a custard being steeped.

My main aim really is to try and learn something from this to see what i can do next time to stop it dying in five months, ive got some 10ml bottles of juice that i buy ready made and they have an extremely stable amd long shelf life so I suspect either poor mixing skills on my part or as you say a less than ideal nicotine situation.

I doubt the extra flavouring is to blame, more likely the nic, is the burnt taste peppery, if so it's the nic...get your shots from somewhere else

I am with @Rickster here 100% especially as you’ve already experienced dodgy nic before from the same source. There are plenty of other places that sell good quality Nic shots if that is your preference but it’s not worth trying to buy the cheapest as it could be old stock which could ruin your juice in the long run. For really long steeps like custards you could always add your nicotine half way through or even at the end like you would a commercial short fill bottle but I have heard that the nicotine does help with the steeping process as in that the flavours develope better hence why I suggested adding it at the halfway mark of the steeping process. If you need any more info please let us know.

I really appreciate your reply I have ordered some nicotine shots again from a different vendor and i will mix 2 custards, one woth the nicotine in and one with the nicotine in at the end that way if one spoils the other should be ok, ime considering controlling the environment aswell to optimise my experience with steeping.

I really appreciate everyones reply

fill it to the top this time. leaving air for that long in contact with any nicotine would cause oxidation.
best before is for sealed bottle only.
