I have some pre made 100%vg 8mg base liquid for my mixes and have now decided 8mg is too high. I have some boots vg. And wanted to know if I wanted to reduce to around 4-5mg how much would I need to add before flavouring?

I'm new to all this mixing stuff so probably not the best person to answer.

But, if I were you I'd use one of the mixing calculators like this one: e-Liquid Calculator :: New recipe and input all your original ingredients in at the 8 mg strength, then duplicate that window (right click on that tab and click 'duplicate) then input 4 or 5 mg as the strength you want, at the bottom you'll see the percentage change in VG which should tell you the extra VG needed to get to either 4 or 5 mg strength.
The pecentages will probably be different depending on the nic base stength you used originally.

I just managed to mix a ton of different flavours (over 100 ml of goodness, 19 different flavours in 10 ml bottles and 1 X 30 ml bottle. . . murrey mint) Friday and Saturday and used that same calculator. Lots of shaking and patience needed now to let them all steep, especially the desert flavours. :diy:

I just mixed 2x 30 ml flavours. 1 is the Mrs and she already loves the flavour but she is happy on 8mg. I'm subohming and 8mg is too high now. Also had to thin it down a little so added about 1 ml of vodka to the mix so see how this comes out. Unfortunately I am suffering with a bad chest at the moment so will need to wait for that to shift before I an enjoy my vaping again!

To get to 4mg, just mix equal amounts of VG and base. If you want to thin it down in the process, use 50% base, 25% VG and 25% PG.

Late the night maths, my favourite! I'll school ya!

You haven't told old us how much you have made up! To go from 8 to 4, you just need to take the amount of VG you put in in the first place and put it in again (doubling the amount of VG will be the same as halving the amount of nicotine). To get to a figure other than half is a little harder to understand, but not much. I'd imagine the easiest way understand it is to work out the ratio of Nic strength you're after to the Nic strength you have, then apply that same ratio to the amount of VG you put in in the first place. SO! Like this (there are some assumptions):

current base: assume 100ml @ 8mg/ml Nic or 0.08%
amount of VG in current base, assuming neat Nic is in VG not PG: 100-(100 x 0.08) = 92ml of VG.
ratio of Nic strengths, aiming for 4.5mg: 8/4.5= 1.77
amount of VG you need to add to go from 100ml @8mg to 4.5mg:

(92 x 1.77)-92 = 70.84ml

There are a whole bunch of ways of thinking about and writing this, but I've done it in the way I think will translate easiest over t'internet. Adjust numbers to fit and you'll get your answer.
