Hi, I bought a 4-nine from Matt a while back that has been going great with an efest 18350 button top.

I recently tried an efest purple 18650 flat top but the thing just gets hot, quickly and makes me pull it apart & throw from the nearest window..

so, what's the best 18650 that will fit this mech mod? Can anybody help?

the 4nine works best with button top batteries or you can buy battery magnets to use with flat tops

Sounds like it's shorting on the cap, have you tried magnet buttons ( I'm new to mechs so could be wrong)

Check the 510 pin on your atomiser, the positive post (the bit in the middle) needs to poke out further than the negative threading area. If it doesn't then both ends of the battery will be making connection to the negative and it will short.

Some atomisers just aren't really safe on a 4nine. Button tops might alleviate the issue, but I would either choose a different atty or get happy with a metal file lol, because the danger of a short is always there if your mod takes a knock. I would never use magnets for this. The chance they would move sounds like a lethal idea to me. Magnets are to shorten the throw not compensate for a flush 510 imo

I use a purple efest 18650 with mine, I just pop a little magnet on the top and vape away

I've never had a problem with flat tops in my 4nine provided that the 510 positive post on the atty protrudes far enough.

I have however had trouble with some 18650 button top batteries actually being too long for the 4nine.

Thanks all. I'll give some of that a go & see how I get on.
