Marketing of e-cigarettes 'linked to rise in youngsters trying them'

Surely a large proportion of these kids starting vaping would of started smoking if vaping was not available to them.
If it were available when I started there is no chance on earth I would of chosen foul tasting cancer causing sticks over a delicious fruity mix.

Obviously you get people just doing it because its "cool" but I'm pretty sure that was part of the reason I started at 14 anyway.

The government should give out free ego style vape kits to all youngsters who have started smoking and get them of those before they do too much damage.

Absolutely right @dave033. The Yanks in particular are making a big thing of youngsters taking up vaping, but none of the reports actually analyse the statistics.

In America, the number of 18 year olds smoking and vaping combined is at its lowest since the 1950's, which shows that younger kids are being diverted into vaping, and then giving it up and not taking up smoking.

But the main issue is the demonisation of vaping - if there was widespread recognition of how harmless it is, vaping kits could be issued to all kids to try and prevent them smoking.

What is strange is as a parent of 3 kids I wouldn't want them to start vaping either.

I think the demonisation of vaping is, to a small degree, even in myself. But I can see how it is probably outside pressure that have caused that.

If any of my children started smoking I would march them straight into a vape shop and not leave until they found something that they could get along with.

Lol. That's probably the view of the majority, but as a maths wiz and former bookie, I tend to look at odds and probability.

I was fairly surprised my son never smoked, so when my daughter asked to try my vape, I guessed, correctly as it turned out, that she was smoking and ordered a Kanger Subox kit for her the same day.

I'm not ashamed to say I have a 16 year old step son who tried cigarettes and tried a vape...and now vapes and doesn't smoke. Win.

My personal thought is that vaping has become much more mainstream and therefore youngsters will try it. Eighteen months ago I used to get a warm fuzzy feeling when I spotted someone else vaping, today it's so commonplace it hardly registers.

Vaping or smoking. I know what I'd rather my daughter chose if she wanted to do one or the other. :)

More keech.
It's chicken and egg.

I vape, I could probably tell you every shop in a 3 mile radius that advertises vape stuff AS I LOOK AND AM AWARE OF IT so it registers!
90% of those stores probably sell porno mags (do you still get them?) but I couldn't tell you - I AM NOT LOOKING AS I AM NOT IN TO THAT!

If you do / use / try something you will be more aware of it, nothing more, nothing less.
Pish IMO.

Pish IMO.

First time I have seen Keech used on the forum, well done!!

Nothing to add, tho I have read the article and aye, more scaremongering for the uninformed.
More worrying should be the number of young 'uns round my way having a joint at lunch time.....
But, they can't start taxing that without a complete about face and admission that the policies over the lasdt few decades have been pure misguided keech.
