Right then you lot, HOPEFULLY one of you can help me.

Basically, I've been wanting to build a mechanical mod for well over 3 months now, and have drawn up various plans, looked at different kinds of switches, and made a rough plan of the design I want to build (Purely as it's simple!)
The plan is this:

Aluminium Body, with a SS Head with the 510 connection drilled into it directly for the negative... Then, use a copper positive connection designed like the chi yous to adjust for battery rattle and to allow for a flush fit of atomizers.
The design, is a simple bottom switch (Again, like the Chi You), but running a central copper tube through Acetal rod which is screwed into the bottom of the button assembly (Which will reduce the chance of shorts from using badly sleeved batteries).
I would insert a badly mocked chi you button, but, it wont let me attach from uploading , only url :(
(Much like the negative 510 actually...apart from the internal section WONT be threaded)
The copper tube, will then screw into an aluminium button which is recessed into the body (Which will HOPEFULLY remove the need for a locking ring making it easier to build)...

The reason for aluminium - It's got MUCH better conductivity:Price than SS... Infact, if it was slightly cheaper I'd use it for the connections as well! (Actually, I might)...

The reason for a SS head - It'd be much stronger, and since I wont need THAT much of it to make the head I shouldn't loose that much with voltage drop...
Ideally, I'd make the whole thing out of copper, but to do that would be twice the price at least...

Soo then, does that sound like a good idea? I would put the drawings I've done up, but they'd be taken off a webcam, so bad quality.... Hopefully I've explained it well enough.

Well, I've had experience with lathes etc and found myself a natural with them...
Found a place you can pay a 'membership fee' for every month (Around £20) which gives you access to lathes/cnc milling machines/any other things you can think of :)
Obviously, materials would be more on top, but I THINK I could make 4/5 for around £57 which would be enough to realise what works and what doesn't work :)

Basic reason for me doing this - Being a cloud chaser, I HATE voltage drop. I want something cheap, which hits well (And is unique)

Also, don't worry about being new! If you know a thing or two about conductivity in metals, or metal work... Feel free to nit pick! :D

Chemical side maybe but otherwise little to offer but I like your thinking-)

Ahaaaa, Chemical side could come in handy!
Do you know anything about Electrolytic Anodizing? (That has chemicals... I think!)

A little but know experts(I work in chem engineering mainly water treatment) we have some materials guys I can forward any q's to :-)

I know that some kinds of anodizing you can do with a can of coke and some batteries :)

If you've got access to lathes and dudes overseeing what you're doing then go for it, I think it's an awesome idea. The only problem I have with aluminium is I don't like the way it feels but it's supposed to be very easy to machine.

Really looking forward to seeing how you get on with this and what you produce :)

Aaaah, My dad works in water treatment but the engineering side of it! Wont be for a month yet, but the main thing I wanted to ask is that the only way I have found to do it electronically is using sulphuric acid, which I think is not a good idea :P

Hopefully (I'm also getting my boss involved on this) I could start doing this within a month... Need to do some serious technical drawings and work out the dimensions etc... I plan to use the 'universal' 20x1 threading, and have found the tube stock I'd need to accommodate this (Need to have quite thick walls!)

Think the coke anodizing is for Titanium, which I'd LOVE to use, but the voltage drop would be stupidly bad!
The feel of it, I don't mind... I'll probably 'ridge' the main tube a little bit as the tube stock I'm looking at is 23mm OD and 19mm ID, So I could ridge it 0.5mm to give a bit more grip :)

(Also, I am LOVING that copper *cough CLONE cough* you have now!)

Machining Ti is a nightmare as it has to be watercooled as you turn it or fizzzzcrackle FIRE
