Mech mod idea...

I'm surprised with how it works on mine. I'm using a 17" VAIO laptop I bought about 6 or 7 years ago, was only about £450 when I bought it new as well. It's 64 bit, has an AMD processes and some memory (?) but works a treat.

I've even modelled my whole house on it and the assembly runs a treat. Guess I got lucky with that one.

Oh and Raguri, yea you need a new one!

I've not read the rest of the thread, only Raguri's 1st post saying about building a mod.

I had a think(weirdly,no burning smell)and decided "why not just a simple copper tube, with 510 one end & switch on other" made from easily sourced plumbing parts?

I'm considering doing that. Not so easy to make a decent button though.

Problems with that idea:
getting a SOLID 510 connection in the top, without wiring etc, would be bloody hard and would still require machining.
The switch, will be a pain in the ass to do, and again, if you want a true mech, will need no wiring :P

Think that is easily sorted.

Take apart a 510 connector, remove original positive pin, replace with small length of (3mm?)copper rod?

Switch, take apart most bottom firers & copy their system, only using a pipe-fitting such as the large knurled devices used to join pipes of differing diameters together? Instead of a cap made from ss/aluminium/brass,spend a time filing/turning a lump of copper into a plate with a column up from the centre to act as the "sliding" piece of the switch...no wiring, copper good conductor so no voltage drops...equals "one very efficient bottom firing, hard as nails hitting mod"

I can see it in my head, just trying to describe it in text isn't working as I still haven't managed to visit a plumbing vendors.
