Hi Guys

I just recieved my MVP 2 and IGO-L along with some .28 kanthol wire and silca wick (2.5mm).
My first coil didn't go so well, i couldn't get the reading above 0.9ohms, after a second go i managed to get 1.7ohms but it just doesn't seem to be firing up very well at all.
Baring in mind i built this at my desk in the office so it could be to the fact i rushed the coil. Does any one know what could be causing this? do you think i should of gone with slightly higher kanthol ? i'm thinking about buying another reel of .32.

For the time being, how many wraps would it take to get around 2.0ohms? im guessing i'm going to need around 10 wraps to achieve this?

On a more positive note, i absolutely love the MVP 2! What an awesome bit of kit!
cheers

Ok guys, after playing around with this a bit more she seems to be firing up slightly better!
I have a few more questions which i just want to double check before i try building another coil.

- Is it best to make the coil, then burn with a lighter to get the coils closer?
- i take it i do this before feeding the wick through the coil?
- i have read a lot of people test the glow before adding juice, do i do this before wicking the coil or after?
- will burning the fraid ends of the wick with a lighter end in tears? or is that the best thing to do to reduce all the fibres etc which have come off into and around the RDA?

Sorry i know these are really nooby questions, but you have to start somewhere aye?

cheers

.28
.32

american wire gauge? or mm?
you say "higher kanthal"...higher how? bigger number?

0.2mm kanthal, 5 or 6 wraps or so should be (from memory) somewhere between 1.4ohms and 1.8 ohms.

flame the wire, then make your coil, pulse it a few times if you want to...put in silica/cotton.
if silica, you can flame it, but not necessary. A lighter is just about not good enough...gas torch, gas stove. you get the idea
if cotton, dont do this please. your cotton will burn away

everybody will have an opinion, and it is good to know there is no right way really.99% of what we do is identical..just do what works for you

Love the MVP V2 great piece of kit, just got one too; but finding the power button bit of a set back, its set way way too flush to the body and you virtually need your thumb fingernail to get at it, or any other fingernail...do you find that? Otherwise its great.

Sorry, bit off topic.

The thicker the wire the less resistance you get for instance with 5 wraps of .20 you'll get about 1.8 ohms on 2mm silica whereas with .30 you'll get 0.6ohms
Here's a chart to give you a rough idea -

If you want higher resistance you either need more wraps or a larger diameter, so you could try doubling (or tripling) up the wick and wrapping around that, possibly with a needle or similar in the middle so you don't wrap it too tight.

5/6 turns on .2 kanthal/2mm wick.

I don't know how you're recoiling but this was my way on silica. Heated wire over hob flame to take out the springiness, took the silica (on roll/whole length) and held it against a thin needle, with 0.2 kanthal made 7 turns at 1mm spacing (roughly) and unwound the very first turn (first turn is never even for me), straightened any deviations, fixed the coil to the base of the device with needle, fired to check for shorts and hot spots/even glow, straightened any further deviations, removed needle, trimmed wick and fired to check as above, then placed 1 drop of juice on the coil and assembled the rest....

Hope this was helpful? Good luck

Hi guys

Thanks for all your helpful info! I got home from work and cracked on with a new coil! We now seem to be in luck!
After my first attempt i got 1.9ohms which was around 8 wraps! I think I'm going to order my self some .32 kanthol so I can get away with less wraps , I'm guessing that will fire up and vape a lot easier as more of the wick will be exposed ?
Reference the igo, so far I'm loving it ! I already had a cheap mini rda from my local shop so I'm well aware how much better dripping is compared to the tanks i have ! Although I just used the pre made coil on my other rda.
I did notice the igo is rather airy though, although I see a lot of people disagree with with this and drill the air hole to around 1.5mm ?
Reference the MVP, I have no problems what so ever with the button. Before buying the MVP i watched a few videos and a lot of people were complaining about then stiffness of it. I personally think it's perfect :)
Here are a few pics of my first attempt...

I've tried two different liquids from nicoticket in the igo and they taste absolutely delicious !

Next on the list will be to start building my own kanger coils for my pro tank 2 and mini.

Cheers
