New to mixing, chemical taste?

Ok so I'm new to mixing and bought my nic base, vg, pg, flavours and syringes off chefs vapour and thought great, will be vaping some great tasting juice soon!

However that's really not the case bought some melon from flavour art and water melon from inawera as everywhere said they had a more natural taste to them. Anyway I mixed 5mg of each using the potv calculator and put them in my tugboat clone to try them out, absolutely rank! Horrible chemical taste to them is it just a case of leaving them to steep? Here's a copy from the calculator incase I've done something wrong

To make 5.0mls @ 3.0mg Nicotine(Mls)
Base Nicotine - 0.2
PG : - 1.5
VG : - 2.8
Water Melon - 0.5
Total Flavouring - 0.5
Expected PG:VG Ratio - 40:60

Could well be a case of letting them steep for a while. In general fruit flavours don't need too much steeping, but it isn't always the case. Can't speak for the watermelon or melon since I'm not a melon fan, but the Summer Clouds from flavourart tasted really perfumey when I first mixed it, not terrible but I didn't really like it. I accidentally used some yesterday that I'd decanted into an unmarked bottle and forgotten about and it's really good now a week and a half later. Now I have ~ 90ml of nice liquid which I thought was going to be wasted.

Hopefully it's just a case of being patient then! Also bought some hazelnut but my empty bottled havnt arrived yet so will have to wait on that one, doesn't smell the best tbh though!

Put in the cupboard for now and will come back in a week or two and see how they are

Not mixed with flavour art but it sounds like you've gone too strong..... i tend to only go with 3% with fruits. I have a inerwa (sp) melon and is horrible at anything above that. Very chemical taste...

That very well maybe the case, i used 10%.

I haven't used the melon, but I have used other inawera fruits and I mix them at well below 10%. I normally start with a mix at 5% and judge what works based on that.

I use flavourart fruits at about 8% but I think 3% is the recommendation.

Amateur mistake on my behalf by the looks of it then!

No biggy, just mix up some unflavoured and combine it 1:1 with the stuff you already made.

Good plan, will bring it down to 5% flavour then?
