Hello everyone i'm new to all this vaping stuff and want some sort of starter kit to help me stop smoking rollies but after looking at the endless stuff available my heads spinning so can someone please point me in the right direction cheers Rob.

Firstly Hi & Welcome to the Planet

evod starter kits are all the rage atm & are pretty good.. I recently set up a few family members with them and there loving it

Can someone tell me the benefits of the evod set-up over the ego + CE4/CE5? The consensus seems to be for the former, and I'm interested to know why and whether I should be switching.

Sorry to barge into your thread, fellow newbie! I can't be of much help on kit, but I can confirm that MrKraken's customer service is excellent. Oh, and that you're making the right decision moving from coffin nails towards vaping - you'll never make a better decision.

Evods are bottom coil, so it gives a cooler vape. As the coil is on the bottom you don't have to keep tilting your PV to keep the wicks wet, gravity does it all for you. The heads are rebuildable, or if you'd rather buy them ready-to-go they are nice and cheap.
Some find the evods can be a bit more of an 'airy' vape but it's all a personal preference thing. The bottom coil wins it for me, no dry hits as it's always soaked in juice.

Weirdly I thought CE4s were bottom coil, purely because I'd read that dry-hits can be a problem with top coils and I've never had that problem with mine. Never tilted them, either. But no, they have those little dangly octopus strings. Odd.

If you're on a super tight budget (and who isn't these days) then a minimum starter kit should contain:

2 eGo batteries (1 to charge and 1 to use) a charger cable, an atomiser to put liquid in and some liquid.

You also should consider a wall plug. Any USB source wil do for charging eGos BUT, all wall adapter plugs are not created equal. (You can happily use most mobile phone plugs that have a USB socket but make sure that they deliver LESS THAN 1AMP if you do for safety reasons) It's also not recommended to plug charge cables into computer/xbox etc USB sockets for charging.

You should buy the biggest eGo batteries you can afford are comforatble holding. The bigger the mah number they have on them the longer they'll last between charges.

If you have slightly more to spend then it's a really good plan to get Variable Voltage eGo batteries as opposed to standard eGo batteries as they will 'last longer'. If you're giving the kit to a complete new vaper then stick to fixed voltage, but most vapers who decide to stick with vaping quickly move on to wanting a variable voltage device and as such a VV eGo will last a little longer before being relegated to a backup device. VV means you can increase or decrease the power that goes to the coil. Power = heat = more vapour and more flavour (up to a point) So if you want a bit more oomph you twist the dial and turn up the power, if it's a bit too much then you can turn it down a little.

If you use fixed voltage eGos you kind of get what you get (though they are better for a complete new vaper as it's one less thing to worry about to start out with)

Variable voltage egos do cost a bit more than the fixed voltage types and are a little longer.

The best quality brands of eGo out now are: (in no particular order)
Janty
JoyeTech
SmokTech
Vision
AnyVape

That's not to say other brands might not be good, but those are ones that I've taken to bits and I know are well made.

Top coil need the "dangly octopus strings" to soak the juice up and get it up top ;) bottom coils have hardly any visible wicks :)
