SAFETY concerns have been raised over the charging of e-cigarettes after the "worrying" results of a standards test.
Trading Standards services from each of the six counties across North Wales carried out a survey on the safety of electronic cigarettes recently, with 12 adaptors and ten cigarettes bought across the six authorities. Results released by
Flintshire - the lead authority for the investigation - showed a 100 percent failure rate, against current safety regulations. Many of the charging adapters failed to comply with requirements, along with a lack of instructions for cigarette users on how to charge the devices safely. Each of the North Wales counties will carry out follow - up to remove all unsafe devices from sale. For more information, contact Trading Standards via Citizens Advice Consumer
service on 08454 040506(English language) or08454 040505 (Welsh language).

Nowt wrong with Trading Standards doing their job.

I'm a bit concerned about the "100 per cent failure rate" unless they were specifically targeting crap and the Chronicle is just putting a typical scaremongering spin on it.

This probably relates to the look-a-likes and badly made eGos, also a lot of big battery chargers that come packaged as part of a kit which are not fit for purpose.

It does sound like they have targetted market stalls, and that is no bad thing, although i have to say, some shops are clueless as well.
A new shop popped up in Berwick so i popped in out of curiosity and they didn't have much of a clue and were thoroughly gobsmacked when i pulled out my VTR, neither of the 2 staff had seen one let alone heard of Innokin!
So i was even more surprised when a new customer walked in and bought a kit, and asked how to charge the ego battery, the young guy told her to put it in the usb socket of her laptop!
The shop has been rebriefed on exactly how to charge.
I am shocked and dissappointed with the fact the staff had no clue, call me old fashioned but if i am starting and getting into something i do my damnedest to learn all i can so i am informed and able to help others.
It is a pity that some of these people and the fly by night stall holders are the ones who give vaping a bad name.

I don't have a problem with this, in fact I think it's a good thing. We have been calling for ages saying that there was sufficient regulation, it just needs applying. For trading standards to get out there and do it well , - good on 'em :D

It was a brief article but then the local papers around here are like that. Maybe it's just one small exercise highlighted but more will follow. If they keep things in context, trading standards should be a good thing, we don't want those exploding or venting cheap batteries. It kind of outlines one of the benefits of tighter regs & if they'd have moved on it sooner, maybe there would have been less stories about exploding batteries, user fault or other.
To think that i feel the need to be around the house for my battery charging time when i'm safety conscious & my set up is pretty good & trustworthy. I know when there's an incident reported we all jump on the user error bandwagon & ok, it often is but i do try to remember that not everyone thinks the same way & not everyone is getting the advise.

What I take from that article, is yet more scare mongering. It's not that they have at last been out rounding up same of the not so good stuff. That's good.
But what most normal people will pick up from that is: trading standards, e-cigs, chargers, all failed.
Don't forget the " start, middle, end" tactic to any news story. If some one asks you about it tomorrow, all you will clearly remember is: trading standards in north wales, tested e-cigs and chargers and all failed.
We see these story's from a vapers view, you need to look at them as a non-vaper.
