I have been vaping for a while now. I currently use an 18650 powered mechanical mod with an Atlantis tank and sub ohm coils. Although I enjoy this I had a wee go on a dripper a while back and noticed a huge difference in the quality of flavour as well as the thicker clouds. So I bought one without doing the homework. I now know that was STUPID and feel like a bit of a dick. My new set up will arrive in a couple of days from FasTech (Nemesis Style Copper Mechanical Mod and Little Boy Styled Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer) What I need is for some higher primate to put things I need to know into some sort of order, as it looks a lot deeper than what I was expecting. Again I am a dick for not doing the homework beforehand, but it was cheap and very shiny :8:

You'll be ok, be methodical in your build & use respectable batteries. Plenty of scope for improv' with a dripper like that, like any other atty the best build for it doesn't always come straight away but most of it is self explanitory.
If in doubt, youtube it or post pics here. :)

Ok so firstly, I think it's fair to say that if you're using 18650 batteries, then you're pretty much safe going down to .5 ohms, without knowing an awful lot. I'm saying this whilst assuming you know that you should skimp out on batteries, something decent like the VTC's, or even Samsung 25R's. Personally I'd recommend the 25R's, and you can pick them up HERE £9.99 (Inc P&P).

So the main thing comes down to if you're dropping below .5 ohms, and that would be time to research on ohms law. I'm not going to go into all details on here, it will get confusing, and will take a while, so best bet is to do a quick google buddy, and have a good read up.

When looking after batteries, you want to make sure you get a good quality charger, either a Nitecore which most would recommend, or a Xtar! With protected mod's, you can get away with certain things, but when it comes to unprotected mech mods, you really need to keep a good eye on your voltage of the batteries! You can do this by easily picking up a voltage reader, which connects to the mod, then you connect the tank onto the voltage reader. You wouldn't have to keep it on all the time, just now and again to monitor you voltage. You want to preferably be charging your batteries when it hits 3.7v at the lowest, and make sure you're not overcharging above 4.2v.

Do a little update maybe, on what you do know, and what you don't, so that we don't just tell you shit you're already familiarised with! :)

I have two batteries that I rotate in my current mod, they are both; Efest 2500 mAh IMR 18650 3.7v LI-MN 35A.

My charger has a wee digital read out on the front that tells me what the voltage is, it is an Efest LCD Universal Charger LUC S2.

I re-wick and re-coil my sub ohm Atlantis coils so I feel confident that I could replicate some of the coil pics I have seen on POTV, which style should I copy using .5mm kanthal. I also have some Japanese cotton.

As for what I know about ohms law, to be honest I could write that on the back of a stamp with a bingo marker :8: but I will make an attempt to learn a little about it.

Efest batteries are perfectly fine too yeah! I'm not too sure on that charger mind, I've not used one so I'm not going to comment some random shit on one.

Do you mean the coil porn section? All the fancy looking pretty coils? Haha. If so, some of them can be really challenging, and practically all of them use a variety of different size wires. Your best bet with that, is to watch videos on YT, rip trippers does a few coil buillds, alonger with, twisted messes, local vape, build mode, the art of vaping.

It's entirely up to you bud, all I, and anyone else can do, is recommend you do the research, no one can force you. As I said, .5 ohms and above, and you'll be safe, but anything below that, research research research. Will take a couple hours of your time, if that.

The LUC chargers are good, got a dual one & always liked it. The purple efest batteries, those ones are ok, should be easily good up to 50watts in a vw mod....in theory.
Just don't build your coils ridiculously low & you'll be fine.
If you buy new 18650 batteries in future i recommend either samsung 25r, LG-hg2, or better again Sony vtc 3/4/5 IF they're genuine.

I have to confess, after 20 months vaping i couldn't quote ohms law to anyone. If i ever need to reference it i have to use a calculator (at least we have those) but i can't remember the last time i looked. Safe batteries are more important to me & i use dual mech mods with no safety features. Having said that, i wrap my coils around the 1ohm mark & above so i'm not hanging around in the danger zone anyway. Just good common sense in needed.

Sounds like you have the same charger as me ( LUC dual charger) Do you use an ohm tester or something to tell you that a coil will be ok? or is there a rule of thumb, like five wraps with such a gauge of kanthal.

Tbh mate, you'll get great flavour from a single twisted coil build. I had a single twisted in a twisted messes up until I burnt a leg out when I was dry burning before rewicking. :)

So I could start by just using two of the three posts with one coil. What kind of resistance would that be using my .5mm kanthal ?

Yes, you can get used to a build & just know approximately how it's gonna come out, give or take a few points which don't really matter until you go silly low, say below 0.5ohm, then things are a wee bit different as you go lower (which i don't)
As for a resistance meter, i totally recommend one as part of an essential rebuilders kit. Stealthvape sell some really reliable meters & they're not bank breakers either. I also have a multi meter hanging around for checking batteries, very handy but not totally essential.
