i have a few diy mixes i like, but it seems one or more of the concentrates in some of them cause more harshness when vaped.

any tips on reducing the harshness?

i recently mixed up 100ml of a juice i mixed some time ago and it was fine, this time its really harsh on the throat, i used the same ingredients (although new bottles of the same ingredients) and would rather not have to dilute the juice.

the best way i find is to add some ethyl maltol. it takes the edge off a lot of harsh flavours. not too much mind its pretty poerful.

I think you should post up a few of the recipes which you're finding harsh ... too much concentrate springs to mind, fine if vaped fresh but when matured ...

TFA Green apple 10%
Inawera Peach 1.5% (ran out)
TFA Juicy Peach 3.5% (topping up the peach flavour)
T-Juice Strawberri 10%

mixed this up ages ago and it was fine (with exception of the juicy peach bit), and have made 300 ml of:

TFA Green apple 10%
Inawera peach 3%
TFA strawberry 10%

all fine.

subsequently mixed a plain Juicy peach tester, fine.

its all pointing to the t-juice, but as i said it has been fine in the past. maybe they switched PG base. ill have to mix some up to confirm, but i now have approx 100ml that is really harsh (and on a build in my rose that was fine with another juice).

might try it in a different atty or something.

EdIt: rather than process of elimination i realised i had ordered the concentrates for the newest mix from a new (to me) supplier so im going to sample all of them in a dripper so i know the culprit, but that wont help me rescue my juice that is already mixed.

Not sure whether this is helpful or not, but your concentrate dilutions don't raise any red flags for me.
Double check your measuring next time, particularly the nicotine base? Are you "vaping hot"?, maybe use a few less watts?

thanks,

its puzzled me, tried it on various coils from 0.8-1.4ohms, mechs and regulated, and im pretty meticulous with the measurements always done by syringe and the nic base is the same base i have used for all my previous mixes. ive been thinking a little more on this, and i think it might be one of the TFA concentrates. i do another DIY which consists of all TFA flavours, all 10% or less and it has always been harsh on the throat so have moved away from making it recently (and changed to a higher VG percentage to try and combat it). i have a feeling that TFA have (at some point) changed their PG or an ingredient within some of their concentrates and they just happen to be ones i use. (blueberry, pomegranate & vanillin is the other mix).

currently the problem juice is at 60%VG so i could try and rescue the juice by adjusting the mix to 70 or 80%VG.

in fact, fuck it, im gonna try a couple of drips of the individual concentrates direct on an unwicked dripper coil. save all the mixing samples faff...

You changed nicotine suppliers? You changed devices?

nope same nic, the device I first noticed the harshness on was just refilling from using the last of the previous diy batch. the only new things in question are the concentrates. and those are just repeat orders of stuff i've used before with no problems.
