Some of you may have noticed that our shipping labels have changed and now sport a 2d barcode.
Royal Mail have been nagging us for a few months to become barcode ready which we finally got around to doing last week.
Barcodes - exciting changes are on the way | Royal Mail Group Ltd
What this means is that all items will have a 2d barcode and at some point will be tracked
"With barcode tracking we'll be able to scan every parcel, so we'll know where your deliveries are at key points in its journey."
However
"By tracking parcels we’ll gather valuable data, which we’ll share with you around Spring 2016 so we can give you and your customers more accurate information."
So spring 2016, just before their annual price hikes the new system will be in place and fully working.
"By working with all of our account customers we want to put new ‘smart’ 2D barcodes on all of your parcels. Between October 2015 and Spring 2016 we will start to scan these barcodes at key points in our network. We will run this process, in parallel to our current systems to make sure everything is working as it should, that the track descriptions are easy to understand and that our operations and customer service teams have had plenty of practice in using them. This is to ensure you have a smooth transition to the new tracking and scanning requirements. And then around Spring next year we will make this tracking information available to you and your customers so can benefit as soon as possible."
By the way they threatened their account customers with higher prices if we don't change to their new labels I'd like to think that there shouldn't be too much of a price hike for this new fandangled tracking system.
Bit cool though eh, Royal Mail are going fully tracked. Apes rejoice, your vape mailz is safe
