Hi All

Looking for ideas for a basic RTA to see how I get on. Not too bank breaking in the beginning

Vaping style is MTL and looking for flavour over clouds. Any suggestions as to best coils, cotton and tanks appreciated. Will be running it off a Voopoo Drag X which has a 510 adapter.

Not a deal breaker but ideally a deck that's pretty simplistic to work with as one hand missing a few digits after a fight with a chainsaw, so fiddly stuff gets pretty frustrating at times with only 2 fingers to hold something

Thanks in Advance

@WelshBlue here’s one on Ecigone at a good price it’s a MTL and can be used as a RTL also. I had the Arbiter V2 and it was a brilliant RTA but that’s DTL though . So I reckon the Solo will be a cracking Tank as well.

I use my own coils but they are more DTL, but I think a Fused Clapton of some sort would suit you.

There is many different types of cotton, but I think Labo Puff is the best, and it’s dirt cheap on Amazon

My favourites are the kayfun Lite Plus or Dvarw FL MTL clones, both really easy to build and live with. Some Dvarws come with a single 1.2mm air insert, if that doesn't suit you packs of different sized inserts are available. The Kayfun has an adjusting airpin that can be tweaked from 0.8 to 1.8mm so you don't need to consider buying spares.

One thing you need to consider is the Drag X does not have voltage boost circuitry, and the voltage that can get to the 510 will drop as the battery depletes - when used with an adapter with a magnetic connector this drop will be a little more than you may expect. Personally, I would not use coils above 0.8 ohms resistance if you don't want the wattage to gradually reduce as the battery runs down. Ignore the 80 Watt claims of the mod - it can only provide high levels of power when using very low resistance coils.

I'd use roundwire to start out, because of the voltage limitations I'd go for 26 gauge Kanthal (a 6 wrap 2.5mm i.d. will be around the 0.80 ohm ballpark and should be fine)

Aspire Neeko if you can find one or the BP Mods Pioneer 1.5

I would be careful using the magnetic 510 adapter on the drag x, if the 510 threading on your rta is too long it will cause the floating positive pin in the adapter to push out too far and make the whole setup wobbly.
before I gave up and bought a new mod I lost 2 rtas simply because the connection was not stable enough.

I know it would cost more money but I think you should consider buying a cheap mod with a built in 510 or a kit that has both.

As for rta choices I would recommend

Pioneer 1.5 rta
Thc tauren mtl 1.5

Both are good for mtl flavor I would personally give the edge to the pioneer for flavor and the tauren for easy to build

For ease of wicking the Bishop rta might be of interest if you can find one.

Try finding a Kizoku limit. If you can't manage the RTA bit, you can use with aspire Nautilus bvc coils?

I'd always recommend raised deck for a complete neebie, they rarely give any problems, and their wicking is far more forgiving than a flat deck..

There's plenty of stuff about too, so if you fancy giving it a go you have a bit of choice. Of the mass produced stuff you can't go wrong with the Ares 2 or older Berserkers. Both are almost impossible to mess up and provide great bases to learn on. Other than that, the newer ones like the Tauren MTL V1.5 and Vertex, look like they might be worth a look.

I've had an Arbiter Solo and a Neeko, plus countless Ares and Berserkers and would put the latter two far above the first on every level.

The Solo is okay but nothing special and the Pioneer's and Neeko's are special but sometimes require a little patience and fettling to get the best out of them, even if you're a veteran.

Just be careful not to get caught up in fashion of RTA's and make sure you get something practical first time out. Getting it wrong risks you putting yourself off for life. Good luck.

Just keep it simple. I learnt the hard way!

I can vouch the arbiter solo was easy to build but a fiddly nightmare to take apart and put together, the concept was OK but the application was kinda lacking.

Also the vertex was a good tank but the reverse threading on the locking Knut inside the chimney made it a pain to take apart

Thanks for the input everyone.
Lots of food for thought for my first RTA and even more for the one after that 'cos I'm bound to upgrade sooner rather than later

@Phrasing ... I never considered the electrode pin ... The Zlide tank is good on the DragX adapter. I guess it's a suck it and see thing. If I need to get a mod, it's a good excuse
