hmm strange one is it possible the coil was touching the outer wall of the top cap

If it fires intermittently, it means that either the switch/pin/contacts are not making good contacts to make a circuit.....It's one of these three things and you just need trial and error to sort it out...

Unscrew the top cap of your mod, fit the atty as normal and then measure the resistance from centrepin to top cap threads, anything higher than your coil resistance means poor contact on the centre pin, readings within 0.2 ohms of your coil are OK and mean the switch is likely the problem, however it could be an issue withbattery fitting if you are using flat top batteries.
