Hey apes. I've been vaping for over 8 months now and have got really good at coil building and have a good understanding of ohm,s law. I have always used my RDA,s on regulated V/V V/W dual 18650 mods and have really enjoyed it. So I thought I would get a tesla steampunk single 18650 tube mech mod there only cheap I know and wasn't expecting the world but BOY am I disappointed. I built right for the battery and it works but it's crap. You have to hold the fire button for a while to get it to build up some heat in the coils before you Vape it. Is this what there like it is there something I'm missing?????? Or have I just bought a really really crap mech ????

There's a lot of elements to mech mods, when I first tried I really couldn't get it right and didn't enjoy it. After a lot of experimenting with RDA's and Coils I've hit it right.

So what have you got sitting on top of the Steampunk? How have you coiled it, wicked it? My favourite mech at the moment is a clone Rig Mod V1, I use either an Aeolus, Tugboat V2 or a Fishbone and coiled them both Microcoil 5 wraps of 26awg Kanthal A1 at 2.5mm width putting out 0.36ohm on Samsung 25R. Coils are installed, clipped, heated, pinched and bruched with ceramic tweezers to get them to glow from the middle out in sync. With practice it takes minutes. Wicking is muji/cotton bacon depending on how long I'm going to run it. I keep it just thick enough to feel it through the coils and trim it and tuck it under. Over wicking kills flavour, underwicking causes meh vapes.

There's a lot of experimenting, it lies in how you prep and build as well as the kit itself.

Not sure if that helps, but in the last three months I have sold all my regulated devices and primarily mech/drip and Squonk. Nothing touches it for flavour and preference.

I have a sparkle bullet on it at the mo as it was the only RDA I had not in use. I also have a wotofo Sapor and a velocity and a mutation V4 oh and a Kennedy. My build on it at the mo is a duel.5mm A1 around a 3mm tool and 7 wraps coming in at .35 ohm I do pinch and strum to get a nice even glow. I'm using cotton bacon to wick it not to tight and not to much. I have made sure I've set the mech so I have perfect battery connection and RDA connection too. I will try the build that's been suggested on a better dripper I have a vortice coming hopefully tomorrow so will give that a bash.

2x7 wraps of 0.5 will take a bit of ramping, but it still sounds like you have some voltage drop. Have you tried it on a VW mod to compare? It could be the RDA and not the mod.

Update Guys and still not impressed. went out to my local b&m and got a freak show mini and got some .35mm A1 and done 2 x 6 wraps around 2.5mm tool coming in at .59 ohm,s I'm using a 25r battery and it's working much better now. Still not what I expected thou. Any more advice would be good to improve my Vape.

I think ruby roo reviewed this and panned it for awful Misfires and voltage drop (was going to get it for a fiver when Totally wicked had em for clearance in their warehouse). IMO I never got a decent vape with a mech at anything higher than 0.3ohm where voltage drop is almost moot as even with a significant voltage drop you'll still be pulling 30-40 watts. My sweet spot for a mech is around 0.24 ohms but I'm paranoid and use 26650 mechs which in theory can cope with higher amp draws. Play around with your builds as you can afford to go lower with the 25r just make sure you check your amp draw on a theoretical 4.2v on steam engine in case.

I have watched that review too lol. I've really sorted it now and It fires every time and is performing really well. It just needed a load of love cleaning all the contacts and threads up with some scotch bright.

Glad it's sorted I reckon they don't cover the threads when they do the "antique" spray and it gunges up the threads. Probably giving a good scrub will improve the voltage drop a bit.

I tend to stick to single coils on a mech mod. using two coils you're in turn, doubling the ramp time. Obviously voltage drop is a big thing, some mods are terrible whilst others are great.

TRy a single coil build, maybe a 6 wrap fused clapton. 2 x 26G core, with 32G (or higher) outer wrap. They're what I find best on a mech, great flavor, and a perfectly fine ramp time.
