Smok Alien 220w charging issues????

Okay, so I'm working on getting a replacement coil for my regular mod, and I broke my husband's ego AIO, so now I need to replace his. A co worker of mine offered to sell me her smok Alien, but told me it needs to be fixed and she isn't sure what's wrong with it. I told her if I can fix it I'll buy it, otherwise I'll give it back and find something else.
So here's what's going on, it will not power on. When plugged into a charger, the screen comes on showing only the main logo screen, then goes to the battery level screen. Both batteries show 0%, makes sense, but it does not charge, just goes off after a minute or two. I'm not sure if the batteries need to be replaced, and I do not have a compatible external charger for them. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I reckon you’d be best to return it and buy something else. A lot of folk would recommend staying away from smok mods as there are many that have had faults (like this one).

I'm thinking you're right. This thing is way more trouble than it's worth to me. I honestly do not get the point of all this upgradeable firmware in a vape mod. Maybe it has it's purpose, but I don't know what it is, and I was just fine with my simple box. My hubby feels the same, the more simplified, the better. Just what is the purpose of the firmware anyway? I mean, is it a smartphone or a vaporizer?

Smok do get a bad rep. I've owned a smok alien for about two years but realise I might have just been lucky. I actually bought a back up and it's still in the box.

I guess it depends on how cheap you could get it. Do you know anyone who could give you a set of batteries so you could confirm?

Shes asking $20 USD for it, and I realize that is extremely cheap for this particular mod, I don't know anyone who has this type of battery on hand that they could give me or even let me try. Either way, I'm starting to feel like the alien is just not for me, even if it was working properly. Replacing coils or rebuilding them is enough hassle for me, without having to worry about batteries and firmware updates on top of it.

It sounds like you just need a simple straightforward device with a fire button. And maybe adjustable power. No need for upgradeable firmware or flashing led lights and touchscreens and bluetooth. I would tend to agree.

LOL, I don't mind some colorful lights. I kind of liked that feature on the ego AIO, besides, it's my hubby's AIO I need to replace and he definitely doesn't need the extra features. I'm still deciding if I'm going to try and rebuild the coils in my new espresso tank, buy replacements, or get new glass for my original jomotech tank. Had I decided to buy the alien, I probably would have kept it and given him my old one. it's the bright purple color alien (and that is my favorite color) but that is about the only thing I'm liking about it

To be honest i dont think i have ever upgraded firmware in all the years i have been vaping.

In terms of the above question, i echo the point of don't use it if it doesn't work. anything with external batteries should be charged in an external charger anyway for safety.

Sounds like another failed update on an Alien.
This may be a work around, but as they say, what a rigmarole to get it to charge, if it will indeed charge via this route.

But personally, even though I love my smok gear (my last alien lasted 2 years before the fire button broke), it would be in the recycling bin. For the price of a new one, ( https://www.washington-vapes.co.uk/smok-alien-kit-220w ) it's not worth trying to fix.

Thanks, but I decided a vape that needs firmware updates in order to keep functional, is more hassle than I need in a vape. Power on/off and go is good enough for me. Maybe I'll work my way up to some temperature settings. I figure I have enough stress in my life with tablets and smart phones crashing, the last thing I need in my life is a vape that's going to crash. I went out and got replacement glass for my original tank, and gave her back her bricked mod. LOL
