Hi
I got Smok S Priv kit, Prism Rainbow Skull design, and it came with TFV8 Big Baby Light Edition EU Tank (2ml) - That's what it says on the box.
The coils that it came with are V8 Baby Q2 EU Core (0.4 ohm dual coils - pre installed)
and V8 Baby-T8 EU Core (0.15 ohm quadruple coils)

I bought it - it was already opened and I am guessing the seller had already fired it without juice in because the coil already tasted burnt after priming and using low wattage to start with.
So I swapped the coil to the brand new 0.15ohm , primed it and soaked for 5 mins and then used 24-30W to start with (for a few puffs - then turned up gradually by a few watts each time)
BUT the flavour is still terrible (The exact same juice Pancake Man 70vg/30pg 3mg in my Aspire Tigon tastes lovely)

So I am wondering... do I need to do something different to the coils in the SMOK Big Baby? Do I need to prime /soak for longer? Or are they just terrible coils? Or are they usually good coils and I got an unlucky batch?

Also I want to know if I can get coils that are "skinnier" so I can make use of the big tank because I see that the tank should be able to hold 5ml (from reading a US website) but I am guessing that UK regs mean they sell it with a wider coil to make the tank only able to hold 2ml?! Is this right?

Should I get Smok branded coils or compatibles? Is there a big difference in quality/price?

Any advice from personal experience would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Sadly you've found out the hard way, smok coils are shite.

If it has been opened then the first thing I would do is contact the seller. Has the authentication scratch panel been scratched off.

Any subtank with a 2ml glass is crap and not worth even putting on a mod. The coils aren't smaller but the glass is bigger. Some like freemax mesh pro and vaporesso are supplied with a large 5-7ml bubble glass but it does depend where you buy from.

The old TF V8 was awful for coils, I ended up using an RBA in mine.

The new TF V8 Baby V2 is so much better, especially with mesh coils, they are full of flavour and last ages, you will need the bubble glass to get the best out of it.

Get this and you will find a world of difference MAKE SURE IT'S A V2, it's one of my all time favourite stock coil tanks, only the Freemax Mesh Pro beats it but not by much.

I included some info on the tank and coils in my review of the Species kit:

I also suggest letting it sit for at least 10-15 minutes before firing the device - if the cotton hasn't absorbed the juice thoroughly it causes a bad taste and premature burning of the coil!

hi, no the scratch panel has not been scratched off yet. I am going to see if I can verify it. It's not that obvious on the smoktech site how to verify the hardware. Looks like I have to install an app ...
Anyway ... I got a new coil the other day and that tasted weird at first too but I tried with a different flavour juice (jam donut) and it's been ok yesterday. I could see that the new new coil was 0.4 but the device was still set to 0.15 so not sure if I had it set up incorrectly the first 2 times I tried it. I have ordered a chimney adapter and some baby coils to try as an alternative to the big baby coils. Interested to find out more about the mesh coils as I think I can taste the cotton.
Turns out my neighbour has been using mesh coils for big baby and does not report any problem...

yeah I probably should have let it sit longer

when you say V2 , are you talking about the model of the coils or the actual tank? the tank I have is light edition EU... I don't know if that is old or new version? and it's big baby not baby.

Must admit, I don't really understand the naming / labelling conventions with these TBH ... muddling through... LOL

V2 is the tank model, It's a different tank to yours, here's a link to the Baby V2:

This version comes with 5ml glass and a couple of coils.

Yeah the naming is ridiculous and confusing.

thank you for this. A few weeks ago I read that there is some legislation saying something about 2ml being the max capacity the tanks can be sold with. Is that no longer the case?
