What's new

Stainless Steel Wick + AGA T2 = Nirvana

No worries I'm sure I'll find a good home for it.
Resistance jumping about sounds like a short to me, maybe the coil touching itself (fnaar) or the mesh not fully oxidised. Ego's don't really worry about things like resistance

I've pretty much ruled out the coil touching itself but I'll try oxidizing the mesh more. I've only had a cigarette lighter to heat it with so far, but I ordered a cheap butane torch today - that should do the job!

I keep learning new things here - I hadn't heard of 'ribbon wire' so I'll have to immediately investigate that

I've got a great mesh wick and coil in my Aga-T2 right now, but also have a couple of metres of ss rope and a piece of it cut, ready to try, just need to bite the bullet and take out a perfectly good setup to try another one, I suppose it's the way to learn though.

I'm using this in an Aga T2: 2mm 7x19 SS rope, 4/3 wrap of Kanthal A1 Ribbon [0.5mm x 0.1mm], little bit of 400 mesh for the top of the wick. Cars are having to turn on their fog lights as they pass my house. 8.5 watts with a 1.3 ohm coil on a Z-Max 3 and the flavour is fantastic, takes a couple of hours for the coil to 'bed in', but no wicking issues, no tilting, no dry hits [even if you chain vape]. Definitely the best [and easiest] 'wick and coil' I've managed to construct.

Kanthal Ribbon is my next purchase, hopefully it will make it easier to eliminate hotspots.

If you have something working I would just wait until you need to change it but I will say that I never really got a ss mesh wick working right but with the ss rope it worked amazingly the first time and was much faster and easier than mesh.

I did think if it ain't broke don't fix it, so with that said I may just hang on until I need to rewick it then try it, but I'm intrigued to see if the rope wick works out better than the mesh one.
Sod it, I'll wait.

Senor stuff, if it's fine with you, I'd love to rehouse your rope. I'm having seriously bad luck wicking my T2 with .22 kanthl & 400 mesh. I'm willing to try anything now.

I've just started using this. I'm amazed at the difference it makes. I find it WAY easier to use than round wire on the AGA T and MUCH less prone to hot spots and it seems to produce more vapour too. No need to mess around with petar K methods and washers and what not - just stick a needle through the center of the wick then wrap it onto the wick in-situ, a few pulses to oxidise the area under the wire and check its glowing evenly, then it works great.

I spent many hours to get my technique right with round wire on the AGA-T without using washers and it was still a bit hit and miss. This stuff is much easier and usually works first time.

Is this the stuff you're using?

I'm not sure whether polished is best, or what grade of stainless steel to use.

Does anyone have any pointers about the best stuff to use. I'm interested in giving this a try too.
