suggestions for mixes that don't easily or quickly gunk..

Always strip both sides, I'm not saying it's bad. I've used it happily for months. The difference, for me, when using the cotton bacon vs the UD is performance related. The cotton bacon wicks very cleanly from the start and is outperforming the UD when it come to gunk up. I do need to broaden my wick experience however.

I only use japanese labo puffs. They don’t hunk up too bad for me, but then I’m only puffing at maximum 12 or 23w, and mostly using relatively weakly flavoured liquid with FA flavourings. I have one or two from atmos labs that do gunk the coils, one in particular, which steps to a very cloudy appearance. I’m not even sure how often I rewick, just when needed but def no more frequently than once a week.

Which of the expensive wicking materials have you tried? I'm looking to try a few and expense doesn't always guarantee the best or value. There' a lot to be said for you get what you pay for but there's just as much to be said for a fool and his money is easily parted..etc. I'm quite prepared to invest in quality material but no point in throwing money needlessly.

Tried, Shake & Vape and Fuzion but couldn't get on with either. Bacon is so much easier to pull into the right size bits.

yes, of course I use scissors but you don't need to with bacon to get the right width, just pull apart, fluff and cut to length once threaded. Much easier than the big balls of cotton.

I can recommend Fuzion Cotton.
Great stuff, wicks like a champ and no break in time. A tub lasts for ages.
Kendo Gold is not bad either. Takes a while to prime but wicks juice like no other, short break in time too.

I have bacon v2 and tons of various Japanese pads ect

I find after a tank or 2 the muji is about the best bang for buck.

Yeah, I've used muji pads before. They're good but you won't convert me, I like my bacon.

Just a suggestion but have you tried Rayon? Cheap and wicks perfectly
