Depends which scientist you ask.. A physicist will tell you it isn't and will prove it, using evidence based on light. A chemist will scoff at the physicist and mumble about colour as pigment or molecular colouring agents.. A biologist wont involve themselves in the debate, but will happily dissect the others' brains for you and give you his opinion on who is likely more intelligent and so most likely to be right.

As a third generation printer with 30 years experience I know Black isn't a colour

I'm guessing mod makers use Black as it's the easiest way to get a consistent shade of "colour"
