Ok guys this has been bugging me for ages now and my anxiety/ocd has finally got the better of me.

What are these connections used for in box mods? Is it for a connection because I thought that the batteries just need bridging at the bottom and all the wires were at the top of the batteries?

My head is going to explode if I don't find out

Both ends of the battery need to be included in the circuit to allow electric to flow, positive and negative, those connections allow the negative ends of the batteries to complete the circuit

Oh ok, I have seen mods without this connection, the bottom of the batteries were just bridged, it was a yihi sx350j I think. Can them mm brass battery tubes be used for any chipset because all the wiring is at the top on them. I'm sooooo confused lol

The mods without the connection are not made of plastic so the whole battery sled or tube is negative so it won't require a bridge same as there mod maker tubes the whole tube is negative and only a positive pin at the top so you can wire both positive and negative at the top of the tube

I'm learning, slowly lol. Thanks for the info.

Would it be possible to have the positive and negative wires at the top in a stab wood box without the brass tubes?

Not without something to make the connection to the bottom of your batteries like pic you posted as both ends of the batteries are needed to complete the circuit

Like this diagram?
This is a series build with two batteries.

The Gen 3 is a series mod with three batteries.
The two pins you mention in your original post are taking the positive to the 510 pin uptop and returning the negative.
