The TPD would include:
· a tough law which cuts the number of new smokers and encourages smokers to quit.
· Enlarging picture warnings already on smoking packaging
· a ban on flavoured and slim cigarettes
Every year almost 700,000 people die prematurely in the European Union of tobacco-related causes such as cancers, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. And yet, teenagers still start smoking at a very early age. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), around 20% of boys and 15% of girls aged between 13 and 15 in the European region smoke.
