I got a tornado atty with my evic, and two more with a dual pack 1100mw ego tank system. I am getting a bad burnt taste with them and having searched the net this seems to be a fairly common problem. However I have heard that some people swear by them. Certainly in the ego tank review video I watched he was getting a nice warm vape with reasonable amounts of vape. Are there any tricks that will allow a tornado to work reasonably well? I tried boiling the one I got with the evic and it has improved a little but still not as good as the videos I have watched. It would make a good how to sticky for the forum

Are those the ones where you fill the mouth piece with juice?

That's the one I started with on my first ecig and had exactly the same experience as you. Not sure if I damaged the atomizer due to inexperience (there was nothing in the instructions about taking 'primer' puffs and didn't know about this until I looked it up on line by which point it may have been too late) or maybe I just got a dodgy one. Within a couple of minutes of using it it was alternating between horrible burning and gurgly flooding, and no matter what I did (including boiling, soaking in alcohol and eventurally ripping the thing to bits to clean it) the burning never did go away completely.

I just threw away and got a CE4 clearomizer instead (which was a massive improvement). I later discovered the vivi nova, kanger protank and evods are even better than the CE4 (the CE4 is prone to leaking after a while and you can't disassemble them).

As you say, lots of people seem to like them, but I'm not sure why. I've heard that they work better with thinner or high PG juices, so if your juice is thick, perhaps try watering it down a little with distilled water or vodka (but not tap water or any other spirits but vodka).

Personally, I'd just put it aside and get a kanger protank (best choice imho), evod or vivi nova. The initial outlay is a little more, but they work better, are easier to maintain, and will be cheaper to run (replacement heads for them are only £2ish each, or you can rebuild them yourself for pennies).

Ha, I bought a protank and would have to say its the best vape I have had so far. I have a nova and a vivi nova which I wasnt too taken with but having seen that they are better after a rebuild I shall try when the wire arrives. Just ordered a aga t2 as well so vaping is sorted for a while now.

Thanks for the advice

I split my time between an Aga T, Protanks and now a recent purchase looks promising. It's a Nautulis and after a bit of a learning curve it has the possibilities to become a favourite. The Protanks are definitely the easiest to re coil.

I'm an Evod fan, quite like the Novas and find the Protank far too airy for my liking. In response to the op, bob salter , if it is the ego-c type 'fill the mouthpiece' tank you're referring to, I started with these and found that the genuine Joyetech / TW atties were fine when primed. However, I bought some generic unbranded ones that were terrible and always burnt as they refused to wick. I think with these atties it's a case of having to buy the genuine article and paying a bit more. Unless of course, the ones you are referring to are genuine, in which case I'm afraid I can't really suggest anything other than making sure you prime them before firing.

@Camel - It was one of the TW ones that I had problems with (though to be fair I only had one so may have just been unlucky). You can reduce the airiness of the protank by blocking off some of the little holes in the connector or there's an airflow control ring that appears to allow more easy/precise control (when they come back into stock anyway - liberty flights sell them on their protank page for a couple of quid each).

@bob I have an AGA-T too. It was a bit of a pain to learn to set up well, and it's not so easy or convenient as the protank for taking out (love the design of the protank and that you can tip it or turn it upside down without it leaking, and just screw in a replacement head so easily). When the AGA-T is working well it's great though and I use it for hours every day (apart from the odd draw on the protank or vivi nova when I fancy a different flavour).

If you're thinking of rebuilding the protank heads (or the vivi nova for that matter) then it's worth learning a bit about where the No-resistance wire is used on the coil on the stock heads if you aren't already aware of this, and if you don't have any no-resistance wire, try doubling up and twisting the legs of your coil. There are tutorials showing how this is done but some of the protank/vivi nova demos don't show this. This helps to prevent the rubber grommets becoming singed and tasting bad. Some people seem to get away without doing this, but I can't (perhaps because I chain vape).

You might also like to look up 'micro coils'. I just came across this myself last night and I recoiled an old protank head using something similar to that approach and it's the best flavour I've got from it yet (better than any of my earlier rebuilds or the stock heads). That appears to be helping prevent the grommets singeing without using no resistance wire too. Bit fiddly and took me a couple of attempts to get working, but judging from how it's working so far I don't think I'll go back to making a regular coil again.
