It's a bit dodgy, but carefully pulling apart the highest division on the device (just above the screen) does work. There is a plastic semi-circle inside protecting the pcb, which comes out too, but I don't want to do that with mine and I can't remember well enough to talk you through it. Also, you don't need a monkey wrench, but take a lot of care doing this. My connections are pretty solid, but you will be pulling on solder if you're applying too much force when it pops off.
I've replaced a few screens now by using a bradawl to lever out the old lcd cover. Any sharp thing like a dart will do, just be careful to pull it out straight by doing each side of the cover a bit at a time.
It's stupidly hard to get some SS vamo apart and usually involves getting teeth marks in the top cap. Brass ones not so much if you're careful
