Review Vamo Vambrace from Hengist & Horsa - review by Doofry

I'm sure I still have a bag of rune stones and tarot cards boxed up somewhere in my loft.

Doofry I have umpteen (more like like umpty millions) of semi-precious and stone beads from when I used to make jewellery and probably some sterling silver findings you are welcome to - I can then use the wee chest of drawers it's all kept in to keep my vaping gear - result! I would love to see some brooches with the glass and stone beads strung between them like the Viking (and Anglo-Saxon)women wore, I think they'd be stunning. Will you be selling vambraces in your shop? they would seem to be a perfect fit, especially if you are having vape-meets :) I wish you much luck on every step of your new journey.

Runes are complicated (to me anyway!) - I'm guessing yours are based on the Anglo-Saxon ones (there's several different Viking age types)? Please correct me as I'll be wrong I'm sure :) Ages ago I got a copy of the standard Anglo-Saxon primer and rune book used at universities to teach myself the language (and then I'll move onto Old Norse), it's a wee bit like when I studied Latin at school and we translated the Iliad, you read and translate Beowulf ... I really must get round to doing that!

We had a few Anglo-Saxon finds with runes engraved on them (always in a hidden bit or on the rear) brought into the museum, mostly on decorations for shields or horse trappings, belt buckles and belt-ends; usually just one or two runes, I'd have loved to have known the true meaning of them as they were put there as charms to protect the owner. It's the artistic styles from this period I love the most. I drew some kids' colouring sheets for the ed. dept at the museum of some of the AS finds like the big brooches, great fun. I use a lot of historical reference when I'm designing for beadwork or colour-work knitting.

Never been to Berwick for a proper visit, but we have friends in Blyth we stay with: Northumberland is a truly beautiful place with an incredible history (we seem to mainly visit the Roman places as the OH is obsessed with the Wall!), I'd love to visit more often.

That is really kind of you @LillyRed!
As for runes, i use the Elder Futhark, even though there is an old Northumbrian version, so i might do sets of both runes, and do various rune binds in both formats.
I am going to have a lot to outlay over the coming months, as everything i had, i had to sell or get rid of as i had no way of keeping it at the time.
Perks of your home being on a warship lol!
