Try to pick somewhere near a campsite where I can park the motorhome and I'll come, on second thoughts that threat might limit numbers
“Why are they selling disposables at what is a usually a more vape hobbyist event?”Just got back from the Vape Expo at the NEC.
I’ve been to Expos previously, not in the last few years for obvious reasons but this certainly wasn’t my first. This years Expo though was, by far, the worst for lack of vendors and the smallest crowd I’d ever seen.
I saw a lot of people saying they weren’t going as they suspected it would be wall to wall disposables…. They weren’t wrong! I’d say at least 40% of the stands were purely disposable sellers and that 90% had some sort of disposable on their stand. Actually found myself getting a tad annoyed and @LDotKDot telling me to be nice to all the sales staff approaching me trying to push me to their disposable shite stand. I ended up simplify saying I do not touch disposables and walking away.
On the drive home Lizzie said to me “Why are they selling disposables at what is a usually a more vape hobbyist event?”…. I wonder the same myself. I hear a lot from people pushing these devices “Oh they are great for people getting off the cigs and a good gateway to proper Vaping”…. Well, as today showed, they clearly don’t believe their own bollocks. Walking around I saw a vast amount of people using different devices from higher end setups to pod systems. What I didn’t see was anyone, away from a stand, using a disposable.
We wanted to buy a number of devices for the website today. If I’d have wanted disposables (I’d rather chop a testicle off first) I’d have come home with thousands of the buggers, but I wanted proper devices. So what devices did we get for the site? Nothing, nada, zip. I asked numerous wholesalers, manufacturers etc but all the stock they brought was disposables, their actual devices were “For show only”.
So will I be going in October? Yes. I won’t be bothering visiting stands though, I’ll do what was the most enjoyable part of today and made the drive worth while, I’ll be at the bar area chatting to fellow Vapers and friends.
I didn’t know whether I’d bother posting a little opinion piece I wrote on disposables on the site, didnt know if I could be arsed with potential issues etc. After today though, I made it live on the drive home. I tried to be diplomatic but I did write it a few weeks ago…

I’ve just seen a video by @vapesmarter and I’m happy to see he had a lot of the same thoughts myself and Lizzie did.

When both shows were running, Fest was the hobbyist event and Expo was (and still is and will forever be) a trade show. I went expecting it to be disposable hell and I wasn't disappointed. Last time I attended it was pod city and the time before that it was full of cloud bro's.
Expo has always reflected the current trend in vaping, which sadly at the moment is disposable units. This was reflected in an increase in manufacturers attending this year and far less retailers, as there is no profit margin for a retailer when the producers are selling stuff at a wholesale rate.
I don't like it and it isn't sustainable but at the end of the day it isn't going away anytime soon, unless there is an environmental tax levied against disposable manufacturers.
Saw plenty using them, although I suspect they were mainly vendors rather than consumers, as it wasn't as if it was busy for them.Hobbyist was probably the wrong word… established or long term vaper is more like it.
Did you see anyone Dave, away from a stand, using a disposable device? I like to be nosey and see what setups people are using.
I remember Expos of old where they had smaller mod makers, handmade coil makers etc with little stands off to the side. Only one I saw with anything like that was Suicide Mods.
It was a rather depressing state of affairs, luckily you and others were there which made it worth it!
Unfortunately I agree that these things aren’t going away anytime soon, seem to have got themselves imbedded like a tick. Worryingly any tax brought on them though will inevitably be brought on all Vaping products as the powers that be won’t be bothered separating the different niches, they’ll just throw a blanket tax on it everything Vape related and be done with it.
We do need a hobbyist/established vaper event similar to what VapeFest was. As Stu said, I can’t see a time where it was more needed. If anyone has the time, inclination and organisational skills for it, I’m more than happy to pitch in and help!

Fully agree that we need something akin to fest. I believe John from Ideal Ohm Show is trying to sort something out, hopefully a more central thing than the last one that was in Norfolk I think.
Finding a venue isn't easy, although I have an idea that I might need to explore. Take it back to basics. One day event. Easy to travel to. Hotels and camping if possible. Get various groups involved. We should be able to get a reasonable turn out.
My mind is working.

epo for me has never been a hobbyist event - its a business event, sadly the hobbyist events died with vape fest
if i had the energy id try organise some hobbyist event, i dont tho.
nice piece man
sadly having talked to various peeps in the trade i dont think there are gonna be many more than us who make any kind of stand against them.
