I’ve been vaping for over a month now and it’s not working for me and I feel angry and upset. I still want cigarettes, I’ve just bought a pack of Amber Leaf rolling tobacco and feel weak minded and depressed about it.</SPAN>

The problem? I can’t stand the dry throat. I’ve tried drinking water, I’ve tried switching from PG to 50/50 PG. It’s constant, I wake up with an uncomfortably sore throat. I also have had a smoke machine for parties for about 5 years and whenever I’m vaping I just cannot ignore the base liquid taste of PG/VG and all I can think about is that I’m essentially sucking on a fog machine. I’ve never particularly liked the smell that my fog machine produces and it makes me feel a bit nauseaus after a while.
</SPAN>
I am upset as I’ve done everything you’re supposed to do. I’ve thrown myself into this vaping thing feet first, have been going on about how great it is to all my friends. I started on the Innokin itaste vv with standard clearomisers, bought a load of liquids and additional clearomisers. Then bought a Vamo with a kanger pro tank, bought a Vivi Nova, bought RY4 liquid from Hangsen. Been buying stunningly delicious flavours from the Alchemists Cupboard (loads of them infact). I’ve spent a small fortune on this as the concept is just so fantastic, a cancerless cigarette. It’s a miracle!
</SPAN>
But it’s not working, I need help! I can’t just stop vaping as I truly want it to work for me and think smoking is a mugs game and horrible. But that first cigarette I had today with my pack of Amber Leaf was like heaven, like saying hello to an old friend. No dried up throat, hot smoke (which I miss, I have tried to recreate this hot smoke sensation on the Vamo and itaste with no luck, the vapour always seems cold).
</SPAN>
Now, I’ve not tried 100%VG liquid and I think this might be my last hope? With all these Alchemist Cupboard dessert flavours I’ve been on sweetness overload and have been craving the savoury taste of tobacco. I purchased an Amber Leaf flavoured liquid yesterday and it hasn’t arrived yet but literally this vaping game is leaving me broke. I’ve probably spent close to £200 on it now, if not more. I’ve been treating it like a hobby and have spent far too much time and money on it.</SPAN>

So I need advice…</SPAN>

  1. I don’t want a dry throat, I can’t stand it.</SPAN>
  2. I don’t want an eliquid that becomes ‘samey’. I find I am never satisfied and can never find that ‘all day vape’ no matter how hard I try. Yet I am fine with the 1 flavour that Amber Leaf tobacco provides?!</SPAN>
  3. I want an eliquid with NO taste of Fog Juice like my smoke machine.</SPAN>
  4. I want a liquid that most accurately tastes of rolling tobacco.</SPAN>

Any help really appreciated. I feel like the odd one out as I’ve not seen a post like this before, it seems to be working just fine for everyone else and I want it so badly to work for me. </SPAN>

Hey mate

Hello .. and dont dispair!

It took me ages to find the right 10 or 20 juices Im comfortable with ... but keep trying .. you will find them.

You may need to think outside the box a bit ... buying liquids that are branded as tasting of a certain tobacco never works ... they just dont .. period.

However ... if you do a bit of looking around ... you will find other juices (normally IMO premium juices) that have been made with love and much experimentation, they wont taste like amber leaf ... but I gaurantee you will find some that you like more than amber leaf.

everyones tastes are different ... but here is a few recommendations

try the HouseOfLiquids Range of tobacco flavours ... very realistic tobacco there .. and not the deserty things at all .. a bit more expensive ... but damn they are tobaccoey! would recommend Guevara or Cigarillo's .. or puros (though its very strong!)

also there are a few others out there that are very good ... Vermillion river for instance.

also .. can I ask what Atomisers you are using? atties can make a big difference .. and some just taste shite

Am confused. Do you mean clearomisers?</SPAN>

I am using the Kanger Pro Tank (very impressed with this).</SPAN>
A Vivi Nova style tank (says Vivi Nova on the side but am not convinced it’s made by Vision).</SPAN>
The standard CE4 Clearomizers is what I have the most of. Made by various brands, most unbranded, one made by Liberty Flights.</SPAN>

I’m not having a problem with the taste of the liquids really, they taste as they are supposed to.</SPAN>

I think a mistake I made was… I started vaping when I wanted the taste of whatever the liquid was and NOT when I needed a cigarette. So I was treating it like a food. I was on 18mg Nicotine liquids initially so started overdosing on Nicotine and feeling sick as I was treating it (as I say) like a food.</SPAN>

So I then decided that I’d prefer to vape for as long as possible and enjoy the taste. So I switched to 12mg nicotine (this seems to be the one for me) and I have 2 liquids that are at 6mg nicotine. Annoyingly one of these is one of my favourite flavours so far (The Alchemists Cupboard Rhubarb and Custard) but….</SPAN>

Vaping at low level Nicotine and taking loads of puffs is what’s giving me a sore throat I expect. I don’t know. </SPAN>

Yep it could be ... you may need to get your balance right.

I find I have several juices on the go that I can swap and change about all day, so when Ive had enough of sweet I switch to a good tobacco flavour etc.

Also the sore throat etc is quite common for anything upto a couple of months after stopping smoking starting vaping.

I wouldnt dispair though ... and I wouldnt feel guilty if you end up having the odd rolly ... think of it this way If you cut down to 1 or 2 roll'ys a day during the conversion ... and the rest vape .. you are still doing yourself loads of favours .. eventually you will discover you prefer the vape.

leastways thats how it was with me.

remember you are trying to make a change for yourself ... there is no shame in duel fuelling or whatever it takes to get you where you need to go.

Definately try for a higher vg mix too. It's very hard to find 100% vg as most flavours are in a pg base but 80/20 vg/pg should be do-able. I'm pretty sure smoke machines are pg based so in essence you are vaping a smoke machine :)
mad for tobacco branded flavours, ZT is right. Most taste, at best, like liking a stale old ashtray and are most unpleasent. That said there are some fantastic tobacco flavours out there. The other option is to mix your own. I highly recommend mom and pops flavours as they have a really nice smoky flavour.

+1 on the mom and pops ...

OK first up well done for taking positive action to quit smoking. *applause* The thing is with vaping there is no right or wrong way to switch away from tobacco and into vaping. Some people do it overnight, some people do it in baby steps. The most important thing to think about when switching is what counts.

What counts is the cigarettes that you don't smoke every single cigarette you don't smoke is a little victory and a little step towards cutting it out completely if that is what you want to do. Some people just vape for the times they can't smoke (indoors, in car etc) and that's fine. It's your life and you owe it to yourself to do what makes you happy. If smoking tobacco makes you happy then who is anyone else to tell you what you should or should not do.

So you don't want the taste of fog machine. So for starters cut out PG entirely. Get yourself some 100% VG liquids from a good vendor. I've not tried many 100% VG as I prefer PG but I hear lots of good things about the e-liquids from house of liquids. Have a look and see if you can't get yourself a VG sample pack from a few places to try out a lot of different juices relatively cheaply.

You also can't get an exact replica of any brand of cigarettes. You cannae break the laws of physics (jim) the taste you get from cigarettes is caused by combustion. there is no combustion in vaping, so it's physically impossible to recreate the flavour. There are a lot of good tobaccoy flavours out there and many of them come in 100% VG form. Have a chat with the people at alchemists cupboard or house of liquids, I guarantee they'll be happy to answer questions and help you out.

If you want a warmer vape then use top coil clearomisers, evods and protanks aren't going to give you a warmer vape. I like it warm and I get better results using a low resistance (1.8ish) head on a vivi nova running at 9watts RMS than from most other setups. There are more knock offs it seems of CE4 clearos than any other style and some of them are great and some of them are terrible.

Your dry throat could be caused by a few things, you could be overdoing it, you might not get on with PG, you might be inhaling 'wrong' , (take longer slower drags into your mouth then briefly inhale into your lungs then exhale, if you draw vapour directly into your lungs like you would if you were smoking a cigarette you get less nicotine absorption and it can give you a dry/sore throat easier I find) it might be your body really hates PG, it might be a combination of these or something else.

Your ideal setup is out there. There is a bewildering amount of ways to vape and it took me a good while before I found what I liked. Don't get angry or depressed at yourself for picking up some baccy and enjoying smoking. Just about all of us here enjoyed smoking at one time. Once you find 'your' setup you'll quickly get to a point where you don't want to smoke and prefer to vape.

forgot to say in previous post if you have a Vamo make sure it's set to RMS mode, hold the right button for about 10 secs and the display will show no1 or no2 - you want it to be set to no2 as this will give you a warmer vape.

Also you can mix and match flavours in different tanks. I'd suggest having a tobacco vape at a higher strength in 1 tank and then a fruity low strength vape in a different one.

Don't beat yourself up luv.. every fag that you avoid is a small victory for you and if you feel the need to have the occasional fag then go ahead and have one. Quite a few vapers 'dual fuel' and at the end of the day, it's about finding what works best for YOU, not for anyone/everyone else. Try to keep in mind that your body is still adjusting to coming off cigarettes too... you aren't just leaving tar behind when you switch to vaping, there's lots of other chemicals in fags that your body will have been accustomed to ingesting and it can take a while for your body to fully adjust.

Dry throat is something that we all have to put up with to some degree.. sounds daft, but drinking plenty of fluid can help and also, as you say, higher VG levels. There is a bit of a drawback to 100% VG though... PG tends to be better at carrying flavours and providing throathit. 100% VG will provide less throathit and muted flavours. I vaped 70/30 VG/PG for a long time when I first started and it's only in the last 6 months or so I gone on to 50/50.

If you feel that you have to constantly have to keep taking drags then possibly a higher strength of nic might help you to take fewer? I went the opposite way myself... I tend to take a lot of drags but found that the nic level I was using was giving me a sore throat through the constant throathit and got on better with a lower level of nic (I started off on 18mg ish, dropped to 10mg and then 5mg for a long time before going back up to 10mg and settling around the 8-10mg mark).

Could I also suggest trying a cartomiser/tank combo if you haven't already? These produce a nice vape imho.

Whatever you try, don't consider it a failure if you need the odd fag... like I said, everytime you avoid a fag you're a winner.

hey, thanks everyone. some great advice and support here.
So the Amber Leaf liquid came in the post, I tried it and just got angry. Nothing like Amber Leaf in the slightest. Taste like the standard golden syrup sweet flavoured nonsense that all generic mass produced e-liquids taste of.
I bought into the whole thing quite a few years ago when Gammuci bought out their first e-cig and it pretty much tastes just like they did. Gammuci was shite, I had the highest strength nicotine that they did and one day at work I got incredible chest pains and never touched the thing again. May have been coincidence, who knows. But it scared the life out of me!
So I took some advice and am now awaiting some Vermillion River liquids. Game Night tobacco flavour and the Apple Kentucky Tobacco one. They seem to get rave reviews so am hoping they have something about them that will work for me. I do like the sweet stuff but they don't do it for me in the sadistic grimey burning smokey way that analogues do. I am in the UK and I think in terms of vaping technology we are a little way behind the USA. Maybe it's just me.
I have no idea what a cartomiser / tank combo is. I don't know anything about these ones you build youself etc. It seems in the USA you have stores that custom make mods and stuff. Haven't got that here. I'll try that low resistance Vivi Nova thing that was suggested.

Can anyone recommend anymore good dark tobacco liquids that are available in the UK? I just have this feeling that the darker liquids will maybe have more depth in flavour? Could be wrong. RY4 is ok but too sweet for me. My favorite was Chocolate Orange, very dark liquid but now I've got so used to the flavour that it no longer tastes like chocolate orange to me. Sorry, off on a tangent there!

Anyway, many many thanks again guys (and gals!) I will stick with it. Just that now I have my littl pack of Amber Leaf, I seem to go for that over the vape. Have high hopes for this Vermillion River stuff so am anticipating it's arrival greatly.
