Voltage drop :(

Okay so just got my new series box though the post and was wondering if anyone can tell me if they have one what the voltage drop is like.

At the moment without and Atty its reading 7.6 and then when I out and Atty on with a .37 build its reading at 6.6 volts which to me is a bigg voltage drop or is it because I've built low for a series box. Thank you

Out of curiosity I just tested my self-built 8.4 volt box.

My usual builds are 0.8-0.9 ohms as with the higher voltages I don't need to run seriously low resistances(though I also have an RDA coiled at 0.3 ohms for testing)which produces about 90 watts dropping during the day to around 60 watts(where I swap cells)

With an 0.9 ohm coil,my 2000 mah lipo went from 7.70 volts to 7.20 volts(a 0.5 volt drop under load)but with the 0.3 ohm RDA it was showing a 1.27 volt drop.

I then tried the test again with a freshly charged 2200 mah lipo

This went from 8.4 volts to just 8.3 volts on the 0.9 ohm coil and only dropped from 8.4 volts to 8.1 volts on the 0.3 ohm RDA(but no way was I going to try inhaling the vapour as it instantly burst into flames :D )

The biggest advantage to series powered vaping is there is no need to subject the cells to high current draws(at 8.4 volts,a 0.3 ohm build draws 28 amps & the vapour is lava hot from 235 watts whereas a 0.8 ohm build is 10.5 amps @ 88 watts)

My first attempts at box building used 4.2 volt lipo cells, and I was coiling at around 0.2 ohms.I had switches melt(swapped to running through a mosfet)and wiring melt(swapped to using silicone coated R/C sourced cabling, which then resulted in occasional solder connections melting)so started building my own lipo packs of 6000+ mah, then I discovered that some of the mosfets I'd bought were getting hot enough to melt their insulation and I had a massive fright when the insulation melted on the mosfet caused a short-circuit that removed the switch from the circuit, leading to the centre-pin of the atty getting as hot as the coils & melted the 510 connectors of both the atty & the socket, and even burnt away some of the wooden box I was using. As the lipo pack could easily handle over 500 amps, the pack was still safe to resume usage in the next box if I wanted(I didn't fancy resuming use of a pack with that kind of energy stored)so I changed to using 8.4 volt ready-built packs(these are as cheap as chips anyway)and simply wound higher resistance coils around the 1 ohm mark(though dual coils need 2 ohms x 2 to get 1 ohm builds,it gets a little tricky squeezing dual coils of 0.4 mm kanthal under the caps of some attys.I use Derringer/Zenith/Mephisto clone RDA's as I got sick of having to drill the air holes of other RDA's to run 0.2 ohms at 4.2 volts, and as I now use squonking boxes I find these attys are easiest to drill their 510's for bottom feeds)

The only issues I ever encounter nowadays is my own fault as I mistakenly screw on an RDA coiled at 0.2 ohms to my squonking boxes @ 8.4 volts and try to take a draw(the loud roar of burning juice exiting the drip tip is scary!)I have only ever done this ONCE,it frightened the crap out of me so now I ALWAYS pop off the attys cap & check the number of turns of the coils :P

Haha thanks for all the info. Yea I've a .61 build in now and the voltage drop is nowhere near as bad. Guessing I was just building too low then. I've no idea how you got two 2ohm coils into your attys. Are you using a 28mm one? Just wondering as I jut about got my current build in on my dark horse and I think its 15wraps of .4

Yup,15 wraps of 0.4 mm Kanthal round a 2-3 mm drill bit x 2 gives me 0.8 ohms (approx) and they can be fitted to 22 mm Derringer/Mephisto/Zenith RDA's(though the Derringer can be a PITA as they need a little tweaking to fit that frequently breaks off 1 of the coil legs)
