Voopoo Argus G pod review by Antony Lord

Today I’ll be looking at the second item Voopoo recently sent over for review, the Argus G pod kit. This is a bit more advanced than their other Argus pods and this time we get a screen and button to play with whilst still using the same Argus Pods/iTo coils common to the rest of the range.

Specifications:
  • 110.9 x 25.7 x 13.5 mm / 49.5 Grams
  • Adjustable 5~25 watt output
  • 1000 mah battery / 1A usb-c charging
  • Compatible with Argus pods: 2 pods included

The Argus G comes in seven different colours and I was sent the “Space Grey” version for testing. This comes in a compact but rather shiny box and contains the Argus G itself along with two pods (0.7 ohm and 1.2 ohm), a usb-c cable, lanyard, and finally the usual assortment of paperwork.

The sleek aluminium chassis has a highly polished finish and fades from a silver at the top to a deep grey at the base and looks quite sleek with softly rounded edges. On the front you have a small screen and control button with the Argus logo, on one side you have a usb-c charge port whilst the other side sports an adjustable airflow control. There’s a small rubber pad on the base and finally up top we have our recess for the pod. Overall it’s quite an attractive package and it’s relatively lightweight at a touch under 50 grams so it feels perfectly fine hidden in a shirt pocket.

The airflow adjustment on one side of the Argus G can be changed from a single pinhole for those of you who like a traditional tight mouth to lung draw all the way to a restricted direct lung vape. I’ve generally been using this with the pinhole open at the base and two of the three direct lung airflow holes open as I prefer a looser draw myself.

The Argus G has on board 1 amp usb-c charging and in my tests this actually hit a peak charge rate of 0.96 amps with a final recorded charge of 1064 mah. This took 1 hour and 35 minutes and although this isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination it’s not the quickest and a far cry from the 1 hour claimed by Voopoo. Lucky the large 1000mah capacity should get you through the day even if you’re a chain vaper.

Unlike previous Argus pods which have been simple autodraw only devices with no buttons or menus to master we now get a small screen with adjustable wattage controlled by a single button operation, there’s more power available too as this now reaches the heady heights of 25 watt maximum power output.

When you first put a pod in the Argus G it will automatically select the optimal power for that coil but you now have the ability to adjust this to your liking and the one button operation is easy to learn. You can use the button to fire but the autodraw feature is still present and just as reliable as the other Argus pods I’ve used before, in fact my preference has been to use the autodraw and to lock the power button against any accidental button presses whilst in pockets and the like once I’ve set the wattage to my preference.

This is compatible with the full range of Argus pods and coils and you get the usual 0.7 and 1.2 ohm pods included in the kit and these perform just as well as they always do. These are the traditional refillable pods with integrated coils where you throw the whole thing away once you’re done, however you can also buy optional pods which use replaceable coils and Voopoo sent over a pack of these along with a pack of their new 0.5 ohm restricted direct lung coil specifically for use with the Argus G.

The 0.5 ohm coils feature a mesh coil with a much more open draw and I found these surprisingly good although I did find myself needing to up my nic content to 6mg as otherwise I was tending to chain vape. The downside here of course is that you’ll run through that battery pretty quickly, I could just about make it through a work day here. Whilst the pod is virtually identical to the standard ones the fill port is smaller and moves to the side of the pod which makes it a bit more tricky to fill, you still get the same leak free experience though.

Pros:
  • Decent battery capacity
  • Adjustable power
  • Compatible with full range of Argus Pods/coils

Cons:
  • You’ll run through the battery pretty quickly with the 0.5 ohm coil
  • Slightly long charge time

Conclusion:

A new direction for the Argus pod line the Argus G should appeal to the intermediate vaper looking for a step up from earlier models whilst still being able to use all the previous Argus pods. The optional 0.5 ohm coils give this an extra boost for those wanting a bit more power making this a well rounded stealth vape package (although you won’t be that stealthy by that point.)

Thanks for a good review @red5 looks a nice kit, mine should be here soon I ordered it over the Bank Holiday so hopefully won’t be to long,

It isn't the first Argus pod with a screen and buttons.
The original Argus Pod had both.

Cheers for the review! A pod kit with both closed pods and can be used with coils…me like :D But I can’t help but compare it to my Oxva Xlim, not sure if the Argus is an improvement.

My Argus G arrived yesterday just as well I had an Argus pod on a lanyard and went shopping came out of the store for a puff and it was gone, it had obviously slipped out of the silicone ring I’m glad it was an older one. A lesson learned don’t trust a lanyard, the Argus G is a great kit glad I bought one really enjoying it.
