What wicks better multiple thin or singe fat silica..??

I have a bag of dead CE5 Clearomizer heads, that I want to see if I can get working better than standard, so going to have a play with different combinations of silica wick..

But to save me wasting time, effort and silica..

Any idea what wicks better.. ie 4 x 1mm silica, 2 x 2mm silica, or 1 x 4mm silica..??

I am not sure if its the cross section area or surface area I should be trying to maximise..
