A Plan To Make DIY Nicotine Base

I've been vaping for about 4 years now and making my own e-juice for about two.

I've always used a nicotine base that is 52mg/ml and "watered it down" to end up with a juice that is about 30mg/ml.

I'm now looking at creating my own base not really as a cost-saving measure (although this is a bonus) but more as a way to become more self-sufficient in the wake of upcoming regulation.

I'd just like to run my "plan" past some more experienced vapers for any feedback.

I've found an e-cig nicotine supplier that sells 990mg/ml in 10ml and 30ml bottles and I'm planning to use this to make my own 250ml bottles of base at 52mg/ml strength. I plan to continue making my own e-liquid at a strength of 30mg/ml using this base. This should bring the cost of my e-liquid down to approx. a quarter of what it is now but more importantly with a good stock of nicotine at 990mg/ml I will be self-sufficient and can avoid regulation and taxes for a long time.

I've worked out that to make each 250ml bottle of base at 52mg/ml I need to mix:-
13ml Nicotine at 990mg/ml (i.e. 5.2% of the total)
237ml PG/VG (no nicotine) (i.e. 94.8% of the total)

I'd be interested to hear any feedback or ideas about this please?

[Note: Yes, I am aware that nicotine at high concentrate can be deadly stuff and I am well aware that adequate safety precautions are essential. I plan to use the greatest care when mixing the base. Mixing would be done in the open air using protective latex gloves and goggles and syringes would be one-use and disposed of (burned) after mixing.]

I can't be the first one to have thought about doing this and there must be others out there who have already done it. I'd just like to glean any practical helpful advice from any of those pioneers. I'm aware that ordering the nicotine from China will involve import tax and VAT but are there any other legal implications of ordering (for purely personal use) high concentrations of nicotine?

Thanks.

Personally I would not even attempt that and when it hits uk customs it would probably get destroyed. and am sure there have been some issues with the standards of nic base let alone something that pure coming from china

that's just my opinion and reading folks getting crap nic base from there

Not recommended! Check out the Poisons Act 1972 and please do NOT post any links (I know you haven't) to the source of that nic.

If you are handling ANYTHING over 74mg you NEED to have a poisons license. If you don't have one, then what you plan on doing is illegal. :( Hate to bring bad news, but you really need to research before undertaking something like this because it has bigger repercussions than just a slap on the wrist.

Thanks for the replies and thanks Mark for directing me to the Poisons Act 1972. It appears that there are two lists of poisons. Part I contains poisons that can only be sold by a registered pharmacist and Part II lists poisons that can be sold by a registered pharmacist or licensed retailer. Nicotine falls under Part II although tobacco products are exempt as well as "Some preparations with not more than 7.5% nicotine solution". I guess e-liquid falls under that last category and so it seems that 75mg/ml is the maximum legal concentration for e-liquid.

It was a nice idea while it lasted. I hate it when a good plan turns into a bad one. :5:

Too bad eeh. The best plans of mice, men and libertarians have been ruined by those who believe that the People need protecting from themselves.

It sounds like you know what you are doing however for the reasons posted above I would say it would not be a good idea for anyone here to advise you what to do. If you know of anyone selling any 72mg nic base then send me a pm. ;)

This does come up from time to time but its a really bad idea IMO for many reasons. Sellers stick at a max of 72 to account for inaccuracies too so as not to fall foul of the Act.

Silentoz is your man for 72mg :)

Hi,

990 mg/ml is not considered a USP grade nicotine. You better be careful my friend with what you inhale. I strongly suggest to re-consider.
As far as it concerns the toxicity, you are a grown up person I suppose and the choice is yours.
As far as legal implications it is an EU requirement to obtain special licence and to inform the customs that the goods are dangerous. Usually imports from china don't have the required warnings as far as it concerns the packet content. Can you imagine what your liability will be if the unsuspicious customs service officer will have an accident while checking your import?
