I'd just like to publicly thanks BaDaBooM for his advice. My teany tiny work bench is now slightly more crammed as I've just bought a milling machine. I can;t wait to give it a try once it's all setup and I've bought a load of stuff to attach to it.
Thanks fella.

It's got a forward and reverse switch on it so hopefully I'll switch it to forward when the time comes to use it ;)

Nice collection :)

I need a pillar drill for making stands out of wood and resin, have you any recommendations for good but cheap brands? Or brands that are good that I might be able to pick up cheap, second hand on ebay? I am in a quandary which way to go with my limited budget.

Thanks fella. All the gear but no idea ;-) Not sure what's good to be honest, mine is a load of rubbish. The next one I get will be bigger than the drill holder I've got. Someone will help of you let us know your budget.

I have seen your work, you are lying :p

I am going halves with my Dad and we have agreed on a budget of about £50-£60 which is enough to get a cheap new one, but the reviews tend to be less than complimentary. He wants to use it for cutting plugs of wood for furniture making so it needs to drill quite straight without wobbling or the plugs just break up. So we kind of have 3 options, a good drill stand is the cheapest option but it could be a waste of money, ditto with a new but cheap pillar drill. Option 3 is scouring ebay for a secondhand quality machine, but it is really difficult working out which machines are good quality and which aren't hence the brand name question :)

I own a 'Nutool' small pillar drill and its now 20 years old and still works fine. Its a cheap machine, but has variable speed and its square. you can pick them up for under £50 leaving money for either a drill vice or some bits. The only drawback with this model is that it is fairly small, so it only have a travel of around 60mm for longer cuts you need to move the table up mid way through the hole.
