Why punch your own hole in a carto?

because they dont come punched

I punched my own cause I thought it were silly to pay an extra 30p for someone else to do it

Plus i could adjust the size of the punched hole according to my needs or juice thickness

And we don't punch them just because we feel occasionally justified violence against cartos, it is because you can then put it in a DCT tank, and fill that with juice, which feeds the carto.
