Bit of moaning, bit of asking for advice

I'm having problems with my Cthulhu v2 wicking enough juice, I can get 2 good 5 second draws then the end of the third draw I'll get a dry hit, leave it 10 minutes & repeat

I've spent hours farting around with wicking & thought I was getting somewhere with my technique but this has stumped me. All my MTL tanks wick fine. I can wick my Goblin mini just fine & chain vape that with great flavour, no problems. With this it's only half decent flavour & dry hits

I use 2.5mm coils & usually vape at 0.50 or 0.30 ohms, 24 or 26g Kanthal, 30-40w. I wick with Muji

I cut roughly a 4--5mm strip of Muji, peel off the outer layers, snip in half then puff it slightly & very gently with my fingers. Twist an end & thread. If there's too much resistance, I'll peel off another layer so that in fits snug but doesn't tug much on the coil

Then I'll snip the wick just outside off the deck & fluff up the ends with a bit of kanthal. Looking side on I'll snip the wick like \ so the bottom tip is just in the juice channel. Then I'll snip off any excess fluff, wet the wicks a little & feed into the channels so they're about a third of the way in there & not bunging it up

That's it basically

I get no leaks, even refilling with the juice flow control open, so there's obviously enough wick in there so I was just thinking I had too much in there

Then I watched Vaping with Vic's build last night, he wicks it in about two minutes with minimal faff & no fluffing & rolls the wick. I know it's hard too tell on a vid but he looks like he has more cotton than I do. He's on a 0.70 coil & chain vaping the thing at 50w chucking out clouds & flavour

Gotta rewatch the whole thing later but I'm stumped & paralysed by analyse :D

I cut the muji wick so it ends level with the bottom of the wick ring thing. Can't recall the exact size of the claptons since it's had the same build in for months now. Works fine so not needed to redo it. I don't peel the muji, though sometimes I split it and put it back together with the outer layer inside. It's not fluffy and airy, but not tightly packed in the channels. Cosy, perhaps. Hope you get it sorted ;)

Cheers man, I'm going to try the "less fluffy" approach tonight & more cotton like Vic. Worth a shot & if it doesn't work it's not a huge problem to rewick

Above 70%vg I just remove the juice control ring and wick much like you describe but with cotton bacon v2.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the ratio, it's generally 70/30 75/25

I've some Koh Gen Do & Cotton Bacon to try, I want to master the Muji in this thing first though :D

Have you seen the Scottish roll wick? Try peeling the outer layer off a whole pad and using that to do the Scottish roll method. I've found this works well in RTAs that are temperamental for dry hits. You'll only need to roll up enough wick off the layer to suit the coil you're threading. If it looks like too much before you start then adjust it. If this method doesn't work for you first or second time then don't piss about go back to what you're familiar with and tweak that some more. I liked my cuthulhu 2 but dropped it and stripped the centre post within a fortnight of getting it

I wicked it 3 times last night, all with the same result. I used the same coil as Vic & can hit it at 40w/45w but still getting dry hits after 3 pulls, 50w 2 pulls. So slight progress as been made. The flavour's really there at the 45-50 mark with this tank

I tried less cotton, then progressively more cotton

I Googled the problem & it seems to be universal, lots of people having trouble with the wicking, even the POTA reviewer had dry hits. Suggestions I've read so far are:

- Use a spaced coil
- Use a 2mm coil
- Remove the JLC ring as @wraith said
- Remove the wick band
- Have the wick a few mm past the wicking band

I dunno if I can be bothered with it tbh, seems way too much faff for one tank :D I'll go & have a another play, maybe try the cotton bacon

I have mate, I was watching Rip's video on it the other day & it seems crazy to me :D It works then? Gutted pal, I really like the thing apart from it's PITA wicking, you not tempted by another?

ETA: I've had another play with the wick, after it had filled with juice it had blocked the channels so gave it all a good trim, trimmed a little off the length, so it wasn't down into the channels & swelling against the ring. It still won't vape at the 45-50w mark but it is great at 37.5w so that'll do for now

I've dropped Cthulhu Mod an email to see what they say. I'm thinking about sacking them off (I've got two) anyway & getting a Griffin :D

@johnnyace once I got an aromaniser v1 and bunged a couple of vertical coils in it I stopped searching for a better tank :)

:D

I dropped my black version yesterday trying to get it apart & cracked the glass & Cthulu mod ignored my last email so they can suck a nut as far as I'm concerned, even though my silver version's in the good books & vaping well :P

Funny you should mention the Aromaniser, I was having a good look at the Supreme but lumped for a Boreas because I'd read it was easier to get on with & bit cheaper. I'm hoping I don;t regret that

@johnnyace re the aromaniser - the v1 is going real cheap in the classifieds at the mo deffo worth a punt to play with. Re you have the Cthulhu working nice at 37w then there's your answer I think - I have found its a fools errand that I've been on many times to chase a mythical wattage you've seen on you tube - you've done some decent investigation into it and found the sweet spot for all day vaping, with the cotton you have and the coil and juice combination you have to be 37w not 50w. Another scenario is that you suss how to wick it so it vapes good at 50w but you end up changing the wick every 2 days coz it burns and charrs and you think sod that I'll go back to 37w coz you get a week out of it then.
