Hi folks, Having been on my vaping journey for 3 months now iam making the switch from vv egos to a mod and have purchased a vamo v3 kit from Fasttech (smack my legs!) and so it will be the first time that I have had to deal with battery chargers and batteries (18350/18650) and after having read some of the horror stories about cheap batteries/chargers and I have to say conflicting information on whether a vamo should be used with protected or unprotected batteries iam utterly confused as to what to buy so I would welcome some guidance . Iam looking for a charger, min 2 bay and 2 18650's and 2 18350's .Price is not an issue as safety is my primary concern. Iam sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but iam looking to buy asap so current opinions are what iam after, thanks folks, cheers Gaz

I've been in the same boat and have only recently got myself an 18650 battery, but I wanted more. So with a bit of shopping about I have a Nitecore Intellicharge i4 on the way and bought some Panasonic CGR18650CH 2250Mah batteries from Amazon.
I have heard nothing but praise for the charger, it has 4 bays, and after some research the batteries should fit a treat

The xtar mp1s is a single bay charger,They have put the wrong pic on the listing above. The XtarWP2ll has 2 bays.

For Batteries big_f_d_d I have bought from and he knows his stuff being a battery anorak and reading his reviews.

Nitecore i4 chargers are about the best around. If you're after a reasonable budget charger you can grab a Trustfire TR-001 that will charge just about every Li-Ion battery or IMR battery you'll use in a PV those go for about £10 from a reputable UK vendor.

If you're using a mod that has a lot of protection built into it, like a Vamo or a Zmax then you are fine using Li-Ion uprotected batteries in it. The protection circuitry that's on a protected battery stops the battery from being overcharged or under charged. That protection is duplicated in a vamo or a zmax or a good charger anyway so it's not necessary to have it on the battery as well. It's a little safer if you have 'extra protection' but not needed.
If you are using a mech mod or a mod that has no protection built into it then at the very least you want to be using protected Li-Ion batteries, and the absolute safest ones to go for are IMR type. It's not recommended to use unprotected Li-Ion batteries in an unprotected device.

Li-Ion and IMR use different chemistry inside the battery to provide the power. IMR batteries are much safer than Li-Ion batteries (which is why they are a bunch more expensive)

I've heard excellent reviews about Torchy's batteries (it's his ebay shop linked above) and his service and would recommend him. He also knows a lot more about batteries than I do, so if what he says contradicts any of this post then go with the expert :)

I too am a :noob: however when I upgraded to my Vamo v2 SS (don't really like the look of v3) after lots of research (lurking reading forum posts) I went straight to Torchy, bought my Nitecore i4 and all of my batteries from him. Excellent service and communication too.

Holy crap! I've got quite a few batteries with 'fire' in the name - including the exact same battery that went boom :eeek:

Does it make a difference if they have nipples?

My 18350s I'm using don't. Can I put nipple batteries in?

Yep you can, I've got 1 18350 that is all nippled up and it works fine, I use it in the vamo and the Smok pipe. (giggle, nipples :ohboobs:)
One more thing for @garypersonaltrainer is that the batteries that come with the vamo are crap, as is the charger. Mine now last less than 2 hours before giving up the ghost
