Battery and coil resistance?

I actually went into a B&M and asked this, but I got confused by the answer.

Very new to vaping - still using the starter EGo CE4 with non variable 1100mAh battery, and the standard clearomiser tank and coil that comes with it (plus a few more I bought separately). I've been using 50/50, 0% liquids which are fine - but I'd like to get just a little more vapour, if I could. Only a bit, I dont want huge clouds.

I did some research and ordered a Vision Spinner 2, just so I could "turn it up" a bit, then realised I need to be sure that my coils can take it. My clearomiser coils have resistance of 2.8 ohms - so what would be the maximum voltage I could turn the Vision Spinner up to?

I've got myself confused, and the numbers the shop guy told me (running it at "8.4 to 10") don't match the spinner specifications I can see (3.3v to 4.8v).

Sorry if its a stupid question, I can't quite find an answer anywhere that I really comprehend!

Judging by the 2.8 Ohm resistance of your coil, the 8.4 to 10 will presumably be the wattage.

3.3v to 4.8v and 8w to 10w. I know nothing about the kit you're using but the mod is capable of functioning between 3.3v min and 4.8v max. If you use a 2.8 ohm coil you'll be putting out 8.2w at 4.8v.

Oh ok I've got it - so my existing clearomisers will be ok even with the Spinner turned up to max, essentially.

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me.

And having just discovered that the atomisers I have are disposable - not rebuildable - I guess I better go and Google how to clean them and change liquids without being able to take the things apart...

Welcome @Subo72 If you're interested in something a little more reliable than the CE4s, give something like the Aspire K1 tank a try. It works well with ego batteries, and you only need to change the coil head, rather than disposing of the whole thing. It's what I used to get off the cigs :)2

The Aspire CE5 and the Protank 2 mini are another couple of good ones.

In regards to how much power you can throw at any given coil, the rule of thumb is, start lower and work your way up until it starts to taste funky, then back it down a bit. Or you find a level you like before the former. The actual numbers, be it in watts or volts, and what is recommended at any given ohm, is sort of irrelevant.

In regards to getting more out of the 2.8 ohm ce4's you have, you won't get that much more out of them with the spinner than you did with the 1100 ego, without them burning. And as they are the disposable type, (which are very hard to clean properly), use it then bin it. And replace with a couple of rebuildable types, (the ones you can open and replace just the dead coil.)
With your replacements aim to get ones with a coil that is in the range of 1.5 - 1.8 ohm, this will give you a much better vape even on the 1100 ego. It would be liken to the 2.8 being a silkcut, and the 1.5 - 1.8 being a benson. Don't go any lower than 1.5 ohm as both the ego and spinner cut off at 1.2ohm, so that leaves a little margin of safety.

The reason I have suggested to two tanks above, is the CE5 is what I started out with, and the protank (still use sometimes) is where I ended when I moved up to big and cloudy.

Thanks - good tips, I've been off looking at them!

I see that the tanks mentioned don't have any wicks - or are they enclosed, hence the "no burn taste" claims? How do they work?

There seems to be newer versions of both the aspire and protank models - are they worth a look? And should I look at good quality manufacturers rather than cheap ebay knock offs?!

The two tanks I put up are the ones I used, so newer versions should in theory be better.
With the wicks, the standard CE4 is what's known as a top coil, with the wicks dangling down inside the tank like spider legs. Usually these wicks are made of silicon, which is OK but not the best. Most newer tanks are bottom coil, so all the wick is at the bottom of the tank, which is normally cotton, which gives a much better flavour. (at lot less of it so the juice gets to the coil quicker). There are big differences between the CE style tanks.
There's the disposable, mostly top coil, bin it when the coil goes.
And then the "rebuildable" type, which can be top or bottom coiled, (most prefer bottom coil) difference being you can open them and change the dead coil for a new one and clean them out easily.

So to make the most of the batteries you already have, go for a bottom coil tank, that you can get replacement coils for, in the range of 1.5 - 1.8 ohm. Ideal juice for these tanks is 50/50 pg/vg (the sweeter your juice the quicker the coils die)

For these type of tanks I would steer well clear of ebay, Have a rummage through this thread to find a known good vendor https://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/...of-trusted-e-liquid-hardware-suppliers.78467/ and don't forget the discount code page they may well be money to be saved.

YouTube is quite good for showing this kind of thing. The K1 and Aspire CE5 @anthonyb mentioned both use the Aspire BVC coils shown in the below vid. If by newer versions, you mean for example the K2, K3, K4 ... they don't all work with ego/spinner batteries you have so you'd need to check the fitting before purchase. The below vid's a bit dated sorry, but worth a look to see how most more modern cotton wicks are enclosed in what most refer to as the coil.

Genius, thanks so much. The Spinner arrived and is great, but looks a bit ridiculous with the CE4 clearomisers. I look like I'm about to burst into a rendition of greensleeves on the flute.

I've ordered an Aspire K1 and a protank 3 mini, both 510 threads, both rebuildable, both with a 1.8 ohm bvc. Let's see how they do on the Spinner.

Thank you all for the advice and the links, I really appreciate it.

And so another shinyitus addict is born....!

But I spat tea out at the image of you about to burst into a rendition of greensleeves, hahahah!
