Another 3 for the graveyard!
So I'm trying to do something nice for a couple of people on here and thought I'd dish out a couple of enclosures to deserving people and this is how my tools treat me. Drilled the ally lids, fitted screws and rawplugs, sanded nice and flush before routing.

Sorry @Chegs & @BaDaBooM. They were for you but I only ended up with one that I need.

Any ideas on the best way to grip these little sods when I'm routing out using a template?
Currently using a workmate and tightening it as much as I can and then cramping the template to that.

Not happy. Sorry guys :diy:

Can you screw the template to the mod? Then g clamp to bench?
Instead o wastin the wood what about plating back and front, so just drill out leavin a "frame" ?

No, the template is cut bigger than the mod so I can use a guide. ;(

+1 to above drill countersink template Open up workmate put wood in gap and clamp template overhang to workmate
Scrub that then

What about doing the routing 1st, then cut the mods to size. that way you could screw (through scrap side sections) to bench ?

I use 2 bits of 2x3 clamped to together with the mod in the middle, You could screw the template on top.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The wood is in skinny lengths so I can't rout it first. I think i might just use my drill vice and build up the around it with scrap wood? Then I could just screw the template into the scraps. That or maybe try cutting it out in a few passes so there's less pressure on the blank.

Thanks Seedy I feel really honored. So many nice people on this forum.

Work holding is an art and a big pain in the ass. 90% of my mod building time is used on work holding and looking at dial indicators . As you know Seedy I'm not great with wood so I can't really give any useful help. When milling most of the time we use clamping kits or spending hours in the scrap bucket looking something that could be made into a clamp :)

Good luck sorry I can't be of any help.

I think I'm going to make some sort of jig to hold the blanks. Wasting time and materials doing it this way.
Maybe it'll work out next time ;-)
