What's new

Bugger, balls!

A guide plate.

waste out a lot using forstner or auger in drill press first then lots of shallow passes I the way to go I think.
otherwise the bit can furrow in and wander or snatch. also try going the opposite way round to the bits spin.
this is so the bit wont try to dive in an bury itself.

Take a look at the cheapo clarke router table. Its pretty small. Without the wings on its only about 2'x1'. Then make a template for the table and run your box freely inside the template.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I'll have another play tomorrow. I think I was being ambitious trying to cut 20mm away in 1 pass. Also the walnut is a bit light.

I'll have a look. Cheers.

Wow,thank you for this mate.I have seen some of your previous work & they looked really nice(though I do like the wooden mods more than metal)I don't possess the shed/tools to build a wood mod, though I kept the wood from a Brazilian mahogany coffee table I made at school which finally expired (my tongue & groove joints weren't to clever, nor was the dovetail joints and 35 years of being soaked in beer/coffee/tea/juice/nicotine/ash etc by my Dad,and used by my Mother to batter my Dad meant the glue failed numerous times and eventually there wasn't enough wood left to hold the joints)The rest of the table is fine,it is ONLY the various joints that are so fucked up that I can't repair them without some proper woodworking tools.Even the french-polishing I finished it with all those years ago is still good(as I bought a new tin of bees wax & re-polished it about 10 years ago) I haven't a clue as to HOW I'll be able to turn it into a mod yet, even if I had the tools but I just like to harbour the thought that one day.... :P

Seedy, I use turners tape a lot at work to hold templates in place for routing, sawing etc.

Turners tape is used for turning stuff on the wood lathe, it's a thin very strong cloth core double sided tape, not that foam core crap. Check your wood working store.

1" X 36 Yard Double-Sided Turner's Tape - Rockler Woodworking Tools

It may sound nut's, but only until you try it and then you'll be wondering how you ever got this far in life with out it.
